Lift your game. What has happened Riverhouse Cafe? The first 2 times I came here the food was beautifully cooked and well presented. Today's visit has left me bewildered. All 8 of the 8 meals served were a disappointment.
I am embarrassed to have now suggested visiting this cafe.
Fried eggs for all three Egg and Bacon rolls were fried within an inch of their lives. Reminicent of a Frisbee or shoe leather comes to mind.
The scrambled eggs where dry, cold and leathery. Overcooked and left to go cold before being served.
The runny poached eggs were sent back because they were hard boiled and cold. The second coming of poached eggs were only just runny in the middle of the yolk but still cold.
It looked like the first coming of the returned poached eggs came back in the Eggs Benny again, hard boiled and cold.
Someone needs to look up that a poached egg is runny otherwise it is just overcooked and hard boiled.
The smashed avo looked like it was yesterday's leftovers, brown and unappetising and lucky to be less than half an avocado, not on Vienna or sourdough but on thick white toast sliced for $18, go figure.
The Vienna Loaf bread on the menu was just a toasted slice white toast bread for all thevienna bread meals on the menue. There was no bread that looked like Vienna Loaf served at the table. It was just factory bread and not even something from the local bakery.
From today's experience I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND this cafe again. I'd rather a watery McDonalds coffee and frozen reheated McDonalds Pancakes than this overcooked unpaletable tosh.
Maybe a change of cooks is needed, a chef would not serve up this overpriced inedible muck. It is the consistent lack of quality across all meals today that has won The Riverhouse Cafe...
Read moreI have been a regular customer, enjoying both breakfast and lunch at The Riverhouse for an entire year, Monday to Friday. Throughout my visits the coffee has been consistent and is one of the best options in Raymond Terrace, I can count on one hand the number of coffees that did not meet my expectations, but the exceptional staff were always understanding and resolved the issue promptly.
The food at the Riverhouse is consistently delightful, and I have only had one instance where I was not completely satisfied. That being said, the attentive and friendly staff made sure to rectify any concerns I had. Their dedication to customer satisfaction is truly commendable.
One of the highlights of the cafe is its verandah, offering tranquil views of the Hunter River. On a spring or summer day, it is a beautiful and relaxing spot to enjoy a meal while taking in the picturesque surroundings.
To top it all off, I had the pleasure of hosting my 30th birthday as a private function at the Riverhouse, Kate the owner, Ellen the manager, and the incredible team went above and beyond to make it an unforgettable experience, making the cafe look like a different venue, along with a custom four course dinner menu. Their attention to detail and impeccable service truly made the night magical.
Overall, the Riverhouse has become my go-to spot for delicious meals, friendly service, and river views. Despite a few minor hiccups, the staff's dedication and the overall experience always leave me satisfied. If you are looking for a place to indulge your taste buds, get great customer service and soak in the view of the Hunter River, the...
Read moreStopped here on a road trip given the good reviews and photos of the view. Unfortunately was disappointed. The poached eggs had a harsh vinegar taste and a piece of shell stuck to them. My friend asked if they have plain croissants, they said yes (they’re not on the menu) but did not mention they were $14! No jam, no ham and cheese, literally just the croissant. With a side eggs and toast and a coffee his meal came to a whopping $36. Which is more than if he ordered something fancy on the menu. Further the view was blocked by dark shade cloth. We asked if the shade cloth could be raised. They said because it rained earlier they couldn’t risk it raining again (even though it was bright and sunny when we were there) and having to put the shade back down again. Apparently it’s too much of a hassle. If you are charging $14 for a plain croissant we are paying for the view. They should invest in automatic shades that can be lowered and raised quickly with a button, or windows that preserve the view on days where it might rain a few short times. That said the toast was good. They used a good quality sourdough, nicely charred, but not burnt. The tomato relish was nicely flavorful, not too sweet. Coffee was standard café coffee, nothing to complain about there. Possibly worth a trip on days with a 0% chance of rain, but I’d skip the poached eggs, and order them fried or scrambled instead. Prices for the fancy meals (the breakfast bowl looked really nice) were reasonable given the potential view. Menu was friendly to those with...
