Sherwood Coffee - Parry Street — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Sherwood has long been one of my favourite cafés for a filling breakfast and good coffee, but the decline I've seen in the past 6 months has been depressing. I've gone from eagerly recommending it to completely discouraged from further visits.

I feel the need to emphasise that this has been going on for a long time, and that this review is my claiming defeat. For months I've forgiven missing paid extras on my coffee, missing entire mains items or receiving a technically correct order with minimal ingredients. I can't trust Sherwood anymore for... anything really. If the coffee is good or the sandwiches and acai bowls are actuality together, that's pure luck at this point.

I can only hope the staff are being respected and paid for their time. Otherwise this slow decline would be...

It seems like owners spent so much money for this cafe which looks beautiful and cool to be in, however, the service staff seem like they don’t care about the quality of the service. I asked for bagel that looked delicious however the staff member didn’t even know what that was then they brought the bagel as cold as if it can right out of the fridge. Bagel tasted stale. We were not offered water or shown where the water was. Tables were dirty. And the air ventilation was bad because sitting there made us smell fried food (bacon) even though it is such a spacious place. What a great experience. It was clear the staff knew how to treat their regulars, which is so essential for a top tier cafe. I watched a man on a phone give a hand signal which prompted 'ready for your 2nd coffee?'. I watched the laughs and acknowledgement of other regulars of all age brackets.
