My partner and I came to Parap on a Sat morning for a food adventure - to find a good laksa based on built up expectations and zero prior experience to Darwin's Laksa Capital reputation.
2 of the famous ones that kept popping up at Parap were Yati's and Mary's so we knew we had to do a side by side comparison.
To summaries, why is there even a comparison? Yati's is as authentic as Malaysian laksa can get, from the type of noodle, the consistency and taste of the broth, and even the sambal provided. The temperature of the noodles was great as it was so hot, I could barely hold the base of the container for more than 30s at a time. Piping hot soup is a must for Asian noodles!
Mary's on the other hand, was a real letdown especially with all the press coverage it has gotten. From first glance while carrying it, I already had doubts due to the thickness of the soup and the type of chilli used. We got the special here, and most of the condiments were the surimi (fake crab meat). Definitely not my bowl of laksa.
Yati's: 5/5 Mary's: 1/5

Yati needs to be praised to the heavens for her service to humanity through these incredible bowls of Laksa. Thank you, Yati. Your flavours blew my mind.
I also appreciated the no-smiles, straight-to-business service — a delicious nod to the Soup Nazi. I wouldn’t change a thing. This whole experience is heaven on Earth.
Oh — I ordered the seafood Laksa. And yes,...
