Ocean View Fish & Chips Shop — Restaurant in Ocean Grove

Ignore the Captain Ramrod review. He was clearly having a bad day and felt entitled to something. He was abusive to the staff and felt entitled to a discount even though everyone else was more than happy to wait for a great feed. Yes the wait was a bit long but it was a hot summers day, so many people were down at the beach, it was a great night for fish and chips. Of course there was going to be a long wait and the shop even has a sign up that says they can give an estimate for time but can’t guarantee how long they’ll be but they’ll do their best. These guys did their best. I’ve never seen such hard workers. They were smashing away the orders. They had stacks and stacks of orders. Online, phone and in person. They excelled. Considering at any one time there were 40-50 people outside this shop they did amazing to get the orders done in about 1.5 hours. They very clearly stated when you ordered that there would be a very long wait and anyone who did not heed that warning should have understood they’d need to be patient. The food was excellent. Great chips. Crispy outside and soft inside. Great flake and dim sims. Overall I’d certainly go back even if I had to wait 2 hours. I let them know when I picked up my order that they were doing an excellent job. The owner is clearly very passionate about their business and I loved their attitude! Definitely worth getting these fish and chips but order early and maybe just relax with a beer or two...

Upon reading reviews this was meant to be a highlight of my day. Sadly the only good thing was the flake, maybe dim sim and potatoe cake were exceptable but the chips were undercooked and the Calamari and King prawn? were soo overcooked it was almost inedible. Everything lacked Salt. The gravy was like dish water and the tartare sauce was terrible. I suppose this time of year you can get away with it but think of the off season and people like me who wont be back, almost $30 for 1 person for substandard food the price of going out to a good reataraunt! Order 86 Sure I was overcharged, $29.50, 1 flake, 1 half serve half cooked chips, 1 fried dim sim, 2 calamari burnt rings, almost black, 1 battered overcooked king Prawn???, 1 small supposed dish water gravu, 1almost inedible tartare sauce, think $26.50, happy to pay extra if it was good but, please, pick up your act.

Upon viewing your reply, firstly one should not have to contact you or give a negative review if the calamari and prawns were cooked to a satisfatory standard. Would have thought dark brown morsels would have failed an observed standard of a 30 second deep fry for calamari and a minute for a prawn and failed the plate test. I would also suggest a new menu for the Tartare sauce that tasted so processed and also the Gravy recipe. Why any customer should have to embarrass themselves by complaining, contact you or write a negative view is beyond normal...

I don't know what is up with all the negative feedback, but my personal experience is wow! The fish is fresh, as in caught today & served today! The batter is soft, and not too crispy. Fish is filleted to perfection, NO blood through the flesh that leaves it with horrible brown streaks & horrible ammonia taste, Yours are perfect white flesh fillets guys!!

Your chips had some bad ratings, so I decided to order minimal chips. And again they were fantastic chips! They were soft inside which means cooked spot on, and not too crispy outside, I love the golden colour too, chips were perfect guys! Yep I thought $10 was pricey for a piece of flake, but the end result was worth it.

For my fish & chips order today, AAA+++ and they were done in 15mins, like they said over the phone. Service also spot on! I seen you guys working super hard in that shop, so I take my hat off to you all. Keep up the great food & service!
