Second last visit we noticed some changes to the food, particularly the beef. We thought we would give the Mex one more try. Unfortunately we wonโt be back. The lovely staff member informed us that some changes have been made. We noticed the beef on our nachos was like having beef in gravy with beans.. we sent it back for plain beef which was still like a version of a seasoned rich gravy base. The same beef was served in the tacos. The traditional flavour of the beef is completely lost which is what makes beef tacos so delicious. The beef is more like an a fusion of an Indian curry and taco beef, (if you like this in your Mexican?) leaning more to the Indian side of things. The toppings on the nachos were the preservative type and not fresh clean tomato and the only slightest sprinkle of coriander was disappointing. They unfortunately have gotten rid of Carlton draft on tap and in its place have adopted, in our opinion a bland, and very little bubbles beer that misses the mark. Lastly We love live music but Our ears were ringing when we got home as the music was so loud we couldnโt even have a conversation comfortably while having our meal. We paid for our meal and politely left. Sorry Mex sadly we wonโt be back for a disappointing strike three. The fast food mad Mex chain is fresher and nicer and will be our new go to now.. which should not be the case ๐ if you go back to your original ingredients and beef we will be...
ย ย ย Read moreAfter living in the area for a couple of years, we finally decided to try The Mex. We were a little hesitant as weโd heard and read so many mixed reviews. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of vegan options and we chose both types of tacos. The cauliflower ones were really REALLY good - we ordered another round of those. The sweet potato/bean ones in the hard shells were a little underwhelming (for the price) but still nice. My partnerโs margarita cocktail was a hit. Spanish rice as a side was a nice option and a good alternative to chips. Soundtrack playing was great - a playlist including Powderfinger, right up our street! We were sat outside at the front, would love table service to make a comeback now Covids lessened, really donโt enjoy doing the QR code thing as with dietary requirements I rarely feel confident the message is relayed. Would also love a child free area - getting eye balled by snotty screaming 3 year olds when Iโm trying to have a nice meal is somewhat off putting, although thatโs not in the restaurantโs control! ๐ We will definitely be adding the Mex to our treat night rotation, just hope the food is...
ย ย ย Read moreThis restaurant is surprisingly great. The foodie in me didn't have very high expectations when I saw the outside of the venue. We arrived and did all the Covid things you have to do nowadays and we were taken to our table. It was right next to the bar and had a tonne of staff traffic back and forth so it wasn't the quietest of tables but we didn't mind. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri which was very yummy and was so full it kept overflowing as it melted, I couldn't drink it fast enough! ๐ We ordered a starter and two small serves of the traditional Tex MEX Nachos and it came out exactly as ordered and very, very fast. The servings are huge! Don't order bigger than a small if you're going to order sides. My Nachos was tasty with the right amount of spice, I'm a wuss though and asked for no jalapenos.
The staff are all super friendly and helpful, one lady even bought over more serviettes for me when she saw me struggling with my cocktail melting all over the table. We'll definitely be back the next time...
