⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely the Best Korean Snack Food Outside Korea – JMT Kitchen, Riverton!
As someone who grew up eating Korean food—especially classic street-style snacks and comfort dishes—I can confidently say that JMT Kitchen in Riverton is the real deal. It’s rare to find a place in Perth that captures the true flavor, warmth, and soul of Korean food, but this hidden gem does it with heart and excellence.
From the moment you walk in, there’s a comforting sense of familiarity—the smell of tteokbokki simmering, crispy hotteok being grilled, and the unmistakable aroma of gochujang in the air. The staff are warm and welcoming, and they genuinely care about making your experience feel like home.
The food? Absolutely incredible. Let me break down just a few of my favorites (though honestly, everything I’ve tried has been amazing):
Tteokbokki (떡볶이): Perfectly chewy rice cakes in a rich, spicy-sweet sauce. The balance of flavors is spot-on, just like the carts you’d find near schools or train stations in Korea. It’s comforting, nostalgic, and addictive.
Korean Fried Chicken (양념치킨): Whether you go for soy garlic or the sweet and spicy version, the crispiness and flavor depth are next level. Not greasy at all, and always served hot and fresh.
Love it. Try it...

Loved their tteokbokki! Just wished it comes with a bigger portion. Taste is spot on. Only remembered I haven't take a picture of it after we finished the dish. 😅
My wife & I both enjoyed their boneless chicken. We ordered their Signature Garlic Soy & Sichuan Pepper.
As most reviewers mentioned, their Signature Garlic Soy chicken is really nice and we agreed.
My 5 yr old boy is not a picky eater however unless the food is really nice, my boy will not eat much anyways.
My boy ended up eating 9 pieces of the Signature Garlic Soy boneless chicken. 😉
We also ordered the Sichuan Pepper which to us is not very spicy at all. However still it tasted nice too. Will aim to try their Devil Spicy the next time.
Also they do provide some side sides which are quite nice.
Overall i will love to come back to try their Chicken as they have quite a lot of other flavours.
Another thing unique about them is that they...
Read moreI usually don’t leave ratings, but this place was really disappointing. As Korean, it’s embarrassing to call this a Korean restaurant. The hygiene was terrible – there were fruit flies flying around everywhere, landing on the food and plates were not cleaned enough.
The gimbap ingredients were poor in quality and didn’t taste authentic Korean at all. The sauce was extremely salty and sour for chicken and pork cutlet– I can accept that taste can be subjective, but the real issue was the cleanliness.
Throughout the meal, I had to constantly swat away more than six flies, and they kept landing on our food. It was so unpleasant that I couldn’t finish my food...
