Grooooooovy!
Nonna was rejoicing over her hot chocolate - she claims it to be the best she's ever had. When a place can impress Nonna, it's received my utmost approval. While my father, mother, aunty, and uncle were conversing over coffee, I was sitting with the younger cousins, when I thought I would need a bit of reading material to entertain them. That's when I spied a red picture book with the title no other than The Adventures of Blinky Bill! My mate Blinky! It'd been so long since I last saw him. We all buckled in to be swept away for an adventure in the outback. I opened the cover, and what should I behold but a MENU! How gosh-diddly-darn creative! The cousins and I expressed much fascination over the idea. Although we were a little disheartened to see no Blinky Bill. I felt disappointed. That didn't last long, because I finished flipping through the menu and was ecstatic to find Blinky Bill was indeed still there awaiting my narration! Phew. It was great. We would substitute names of our family members for the original characters. "You're the kangaroo!" "Veronica is the kookaburra!" "Guiseppe is the possum!"* (There was some quarrel over who deserved to be the willy wag-tail.) We laughed and wept our way through the memories of Blinky. Meanwhile, the parents were having a jolly old time. Nonna was content; all were content.
Oh yeah and there is a toilet there too. AND they have boardgames!
Names changed for the sake of privacy.
P.S. What's up with the foam mats on the ceiling? Nonna saw them and started questioning them, so naturally we did too. We could not reach a satisfactory conclusion. But I suppose if that's what's "hip" nowadays, then I...
Read moreDO NOT GO PAST THIS ENTICING WINE BAR AND EATERY This is a very comfortable, welcoming and laid-back wine bar with excellent food. The selection of tapas dishes was varied, and all were delicious, such that we ate here twice during our short trip to Pemberton. Everything was very tasty, nothing to fault. The ambience of the place is very relaxed, and what makes it such a good experience is the friendliness of the staff. We were welcomed back like old friends on our second visit. It is also a showcase of some excellent local wines. It was a surprise to find Grüner Veltliner available here, being a new venture for 10 Chains, a local winery. Having drunk plenty of Grüner Veltliner during our travels to Austria, and more recently finding it being grown in South Australia, it was a lovely surprise to find it is now being grown so successfully here in WA. We wish them success, because this grape can be made into a really beautiful wine. We also had some Picardy wine, also excellent. This is a very good place to try the local wines, as some do not have cellar doors. Highly recommended, for wine, food...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreInterior was a mix of industrial design and vintage. Booths were nice and comfy, nice atmosphere/music, staff were friendly and service was quick. We originally wanted to order their marron which was still up on their special's board, but very much to my disappointment, they had run out. (yup.. should rub that off the chalkboard before you break anymore hearts). Ordered the fried fish fillets: crispy and perfectly seasoned, haloumi: just the right amount of saltiness and not squeaky rubbery!; stuffed mushrooms-to die for; and the duck which we waited a bit for (mostly likely due to the increasing number of patrons- they were full house!). It would be nice if the duck had it's crispy skin, yes there was SOME duck flavour there but I felt that the other elements overpowered the duck, not to discredit them as it is just personal preference. Highly recommended, would...
