This is the sort of “hidden gen” that you can’t help but feel smug for knowing about. Tucked in a small square behind Peregian Beach, there is a surprisingly detailed menu from such an unassuming shop front.
The restaurant has a real focus on locally sourced ingredients and catering for modern dietary requirements: gluten free, vegan, vegetarian options abound – and it looks as though pescatarians and carnivores do OK too (although being vego I cannot attest to that!).
If you have kids, no problem, there is a large box of engaging toys and children’s chopsticks – the novelty of which will probably engage your cherub for several minutes anyway.
Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed!!

Read moreI used to be a regular at Sushi Wave. I went abroad for 2 years and was so looking forward to my Japanese experience. Obviously different ownership. I ordered veg gyosas, they were totally burnt, the presentation terrible. The eggppant aga dashi was tasty but too hot, microwaved at high temp no doubt. We ordered the Sunshine Roll today and we noticed that there wasn't any fried prawns in it. Clarified the order with the server and was advised that is their Sunshine Roll in their new menu. I was thoroughly disappointed as the prawns were definitely the hero of the dish. I understand with the increase of running cost that certain ingredients had to be altered/removed, it would be nice to perhaps have an option to include the prawns for a nominal fee? The rolls tasted bland and it was rather smooshy without the...
