Bay Central Tavern — Restaurant in Queensland

First time dining here and unfortunately I shall no be returning. Chicken Schnitzel was not the best and fair to say that it was overcooked. Wife had the Hawaiian Parmy and I was disgusted that she paid an extra $8 for half a slice of ham 6 small triangles of pineapple as a Topper. We both had mash it was cold and tasteless. We had a wait 45 minutes for our meal, ordered through the Me&u app but did not state any wait times, and when we did try to make comments the food served Paul was in far too much of a rush. We ordered a sticky date pudding and in my personal opinion it was extremely unpleasant on the pallet. Tasted undercooked. We added custard as an option which came out cold rather than hot. I asked server Paul for a second spoon to share the dessert,that question was met with a sigh and huff quite clearly too much inconvenience to fetch another piece of cutlery. A table opposite us clearly had a member of staff off duty and dining with her family as she was aloud to go back into the kitchen for cutlery and at one point she was clearing her guests table, which I thought very unprofessional and understaffed.The atmosphere was terrible children running around which is of no fault to the staff but rather the parents that allowed it. I honestly thought there was going to be an accident as the kids where too near the kitchen hot plate. I felt the venue was lacking additional staff...

Every time we come to Hervey Bay from Melbourne to stay at K'gari, we go to town for supplies and drop into Bay Central Tavern for a drink and a feed. We sit outside on the deck in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Its really a great place to chill and the sun never fails to shine. For lunch my partner ordered the salmon and roast potatoes while I decided to have the homemade pie, pees and mash. The servings were generous and very delicious. Enough to make you lick your fingers. If you have a sweet tooth you are going to love their offerings. I could not decide between the pavlova and cheesecake but in the end the pav won! I also noticed that they had a great choice and selection of food for seniors at a low cost. That's excellent. What was also surprising was the low cost of drinks. I could not believe I got a pint of larger and a gin and tonic for just a little over $20. The location of this place is perfect, being next to the main shopping complex in the center of town. So you can shop till you drop then go relax at the tavern. That's what we did. The staff are friendly and the service is great. Thanks Paul, you and your team are the best. Young female wait staff that took our order was lovely and the menu had a good range of value for money options. Unfortunately that was the only pleasant part of our lunch. Things started badly when our meals where thown onto a McDonald's style tray with another customers order then corrected. Plates were thrown so carelessly onto trays that the top of burger had come away from the base including the stick that had attempted to hold it together. No communication with the kitchen team only by recognising our order in comparison to the 3 other orders sitting on the counter. Food was average and careless which matched the attitude of kitchen staff. Mushroom sauce was appalling, meal quality was below par at best, salad dressing inedible.
