unacceptable treatment my family and I received at Café 63 Intersection on 27/03/2025 at 8:15 PM. The incident involved a staff member named Carman, who claimed to be the manager.
My husband, our two-year-old child, and I arrived at the restaurant around 8:15 PM. Carman greeted us, assigned us a table, and mentioned that the restaurant would close at 9:00 PM. We acknowledged this, as we had already checked your website for operating hours. Since we had previously dined at the restaurant and knew what we wanted, we placed our order quickly.
Carman later served our food and again reminded us that the restaurant would close in 30 minutes. We understood this and continued eating. However, shortly after, he approached us again, insisting that we settle the bill immediately as he wanted to close the accounts for the day. My husband explained that he would pay once we finished eating, but Carman insisted. To avoid further confrontation, my husband went to the counter, made the payment, and returned to finish his meal.
At approximately 8:50 PM, Carman suddenly raised his voice and demanded that we leave immediately, stating that he had to return to work the following morning. When we pointed out that there were still 10 minutes left until closing, he became increasingly aggressive. Feeling unsafe, I began recording the incident. At this point, he made inappropriate comments about our nationality, stating that we did not understand Australian laws.
Despite our attempts to de-escalate the situation, Carman turned off the restaurant lights, locked the front door, and went into the kitchen, instructing other staff members not to come out. This left my family—including my young child—in complete darkness, frightened and distressed. At 8:54 PM, I continued recording, as we were left waiting by the locked door. If not for Carman’s unnecessary confrontation, we would have already finished our meal and left by then. Eventually, he returned and unlocked the door, allowing us to leave.
This incident was extremely distressing, and it is appalling that a staff member, especially one claiming to be a manager, would behave in such an unprofessional, rude, and intimidating manner. His actions created an unsafe and hostile environment, which is entirely unacceptable for any dining...
Read moreOk So the venue is to die for I love it and it's comforting to sit in
However more there's more to what Is to believed When you sit down wether it be outside or in I love the customer service it's so attentive but there's no sections you get sprung with 4 seperate FoH trying to take your order when you're struggling to even read quarter of it. Menu not the issue, My coffee was Grand. However the Mango Mercury comes with so much milk and ice-cream you can't taste the 4 tiny chunks of mango?... Doesn't make sense when something is named after so bold and stunning wouldn't you meet the name with Deep flavours rather than just milk and ice-cream and a sour hint of mango....
My partners favourite venue, IV just moved from the GC to towoomba and she was happy to show me it but instead of maybe re making the smoothie they just kept saying for $3 we'll add more mango? So instead of $9 for a smoothie it's now $11
Now Il remind you that there's smoothie bars in Burleigh that wish they can get away with a smoothie at $9 without someone having a fit now make that $11 for flavour added when it should be there to begin with It's appalling It's our money we were going to spend there why couldn't you remake it with new mango whether it's out of a new frozen bag or a new sliced mango just remake it to keep the table there
And on the second note why is the Mango sour and how long did you have it out of the fridge/Freezer for if if only short period (2hr/4hr ) How long till it was out of date because mango should be sweet not getting a mango hint with a massive splash of tart
We spend our money on your menu The least you could do is offer to remake it as it was two mouthfuls My Partners and mine and if I could taste the sourness over my coffee then there's something wrong And maybe you should venture to the Gold Coast and actually try what they're supposed to taste like Till then you've lost a very loving customer of the chain and there whole family !
Good Day
FYI constantly repeating that for $3 we can add mango but for $9 you only get 4 pieces I'd hate to see how much you get extra for that...
Read moreUpon arriving at the café, we noticed that most of the tables and chairs were stacked to the side, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere. After being seated, we were not offered the customary water service, which set the tone for the rest of our experience.
I ordered the "London" meal, which included a steak requested medium-rare. However, the steak was significantly overcooked, tough, and ultimately inedible. I politely informed our server, asking them to relay the issue to the chef. Unfortunately, rather than addressing the concern professionally, the chef responded by confronting a new staff member in a dismissive and aggressive manner, insisting the steak had been cooked correctly and refusing to acknowledge the issue.
The situation escalated as the chef continued to reprimand the staff member loudly enough for us to hear from the dining area. We sat there for approximately 10–15 minutes while this continued, yet the chef refused to come out and assess the dish herself. At that point, I informed the staff member that we preferred to leave, as the environment had become increasingly uncomfortable. I also took a moment to apologize to the young employee, as it was clear he should not have been subjected to such treatment over the chef’s mistake.
Jason, the manager (to my understanding), stepped in and handled the situation as best as he could. After consulting with his superior, we were offered a 50% discount on the meal. We accepted, paid, and left.
I am sharing this review to inform others about our experience. A chef openly reprimanding a staff member within earshot of customers is highly unprofessional, and the lack of accountability for improperly prepared food is concerning. I hope management takes steps to ensure a more professional and respectful dining environment...
