Cooktown Memorial RSL — Restaurant in Queensland

Based on reviews we decided to try the RSL for an evening meal whilst visiting Cooktown. We arrived around 4.00pm and sat on the back veranda with a lovely cold beer and we soon had some free entertainment as a pair of grey nomads turned up for a drink and tried to leave fairly quickly taking the clubs news paper with them. It was interesting to watch the staff member bail them up. We were disgusted in them as they lied and carried on. They soon left without the stolen news paper and we continued to enjoy our evening. The meals were excellent and the drinks cold. When we were ready to leave the courtesy bus drove us to the RV camp at the racecourse and we were totally satisfied with our experience in Cooktown. Obviously disappointed by what a minority of grey nomads expect but thoroughly impressed with the way the RSL staff dealt with them. I wouldn’t hesitate to return to this...

Very disappointed. I took my wife out on my birthday and unfortunately picked this venue. Straight away on arrival was abruptly questioned about whether we did the COVID scan sign in. Of course we did at the door, but reception who did not pay attention insisted to see the app entries on our phones. No apology for questioning our verbal confirmation. Rude and confrontational in my opinion. We dit not feel welcome at all. My biggest mistake is that I should turned around and leave straight away. The food we ordered was ok and steak tender but spending $83.00 for two meals and two beers overall is not...

The hidden gem of Cooktown! I was reluctant to eat at Cooktown RSL because of my previous experiences at RSL. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised by quality and range of food options available. I shared four entrees (prawn dim sum, calamari, Japanese oysters and firecraker scallops) and all of them were so delicious. The chef was more than happy to cater to my dietary requirements. I shared two desserts, and as you can imagine they were mind blowing too! We had bounty chocolate cake and passionfruit and mango tart. Would for sure eat...
