My Wife and I decided to go out for lunch today, as we thought it would be nice to spend quality time with each other, but unfortunately the worst thing we could have done was to choose the Kingfisher Cafe on Spring Street. It’s clear to see that the owners have put a lot of love into the Garden centre, but unfortunately for them there’s no love whatsoever in the Cafe, by the way it looks and the food that is served out. It’s very run down, unclean and the wait staff looked like they haven’t washed there uniforms all week, over all it felt very unhygienic. The menu was also very limited and uninspiring. Have you heard the saying, you eat with your eyes? Well today I don’t know what I was served, but I actually thought I got a kids meal to be honest. Not once did I get asked how was your meal, because if I did, you wouldn’t have me writing this review on google, I would have politely let you know that it wasn’t good. I understand that the cost of food is rising daily, but I was shocked to receive a few fries, a slice of bread with processed ham and cheese melted on the top for $19! I almost thought I had been pranked, it was so bad (see photo of ‘open grill’ below). My wife ordered the Pork Belly salad which basically seemed like fat covered in sauce, placed on top of a bag of salad from Aldi for the bargain price of $24. My advice to the owners. I would really like for you to upgrade and clean your cafe as it has so much potential. Maybe some fresh uniforms for the staff as well. For the price you are charging, you need a compete overhaul of the menu. We had eaten here a few years ago and really enjoyed the food. What happened? Unfortunately we won’t be back.

I don't really get this place. Generally seems to appeal to retirees so maybe I'll understand it then. Kinda like a Bunnings but just for over-50's. The grounds are great, nice grassed areas for kids, which I don't have, but if I did I reckon they'd love that grassed bit even more than the actual playground. The cafe is large and has many outdoor AND indoor seats available. Outdoor would be the clear choice except for the absolute infestation of bin chickens. There are ibis and that weird dark-feathered bird with a red beak (do I look like I know what it's called?) absolutely EVERYWHERE. In fairness, this is not the fault of the cafe. Constructive criticism to help with the issue: clear those empty plates and glasses ASAP. They sat there for so long after people left. We're talking upwards of 10-15 minutes. If I were an ibis (which I am not) I'd be all over that free feast too. I know staff are busy, but if the food is gone then you won't have birds kicking glasses off tables. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this and in fairness, the bird thing is literally the only negative here. Everything else was fine. Note that the honey in the green tea and honey iced tea doesn't mix so you gotta stir that thing til your save-the-turtles paper straw basically dissolves. Good food, good coffee and nice grounds. Minus a star for the bird thing.

Please note that this is a review of the cafe and not the adjoining plant nursery. Arriving without a booking at Saturday lunchtime, we were asked if we'd like indoor or outdoor seating. Given the current beautiful autumn weather, we opted for outdoors. This venue appears popular with retirees. Lovely manicured gardens, interrupted by the antics of the Australian White Ibis (aka bin chickens). Due to the slow speed of clearing used plates they made merry havoc, kicking cutlery and crockery everywhere. Some Australasian swamphen (pictured) were far more sane and didn't disturb the atmosphere. Food orders were taken relatively quickly, but mains arrived before drinks, requiring a follow up. My red curry (pictured) had a good flavour but the duck was dry - overcooking a duck leg isn't an easy thing to do, it's very forgiving. My wife had an open faced sandwich (not pictured) that was rather greasy and nothing noteworthy. Relative to location, quality of food and service this experience was on the expensive side - but did allow us time to execute a strategy replanting our garden.

I am shocked about the deterioration of the service and food. Lost our business way too many nice places around to put up with this over priced cafe. Booked our table during the week for Saturday lunch during the carnival of flowers. Specifically asking for shaded seating in or out which was confirmed. I again called on the day in the morning and was advised we had a reserved table in the gazebo. Upon arriving waits 20 mins to be seated. we were directed to a table outside in the sun however once I explained we were offered a table with umbrellas that required cleaning and clearing. My elderly mother who uses a stick sat while we waited and waited another party arrived and were quickly seated and their table was cleaned while we continued to stand. At this time I requested that the table be set up for seating. We ended up moving the table and some of the excess chairs ourselves. Table left dirty with food and no water or drinks order were taken. I again had to ask for at least a drinks order to be taken. Young man took the drinks and food order at the same time. Other table were seated and drinks and food arrived while our table was still not cleaned and drinks still not brought out. Prompted staff again for ordered drinks The drinks did not come until after a further request when I spoke to the manager regarding the lack of service (other tables seated order taken and served well before additionally, one cover had left ) Drinks which arrived with one still missing which was a Bundaberg lemon lime and bitters pre-made in a bottle. No glass provided also drinks were warm. Meals no serviettes or forks provided ( had to ask for them ) Chicken wrap chicken removed due to being too dry and hard to chew. Burgers cold meat but tasty. Steak sandwich average Pizza nice. One of the waiters came to the table to say “I know it’s been slow and you waited a long time but how is the food. “ I said I would rather not say but he further requested feedback so we mentioned that the wrap was not edible. He then removed a piece of the chicken from my husbands plate with is bare hands while my husband was still eating. There was no further communication and we left after paying over a 180 dollars for the pleasure (not) Manager mumbled something about it being busy So so disappointed this was a special occasion for us which was spoiled by the lack of capable staff poor attitude from the duty manger and low quality food in some cases. Staff seemed lost and overwhelmed Manager needs a lesson in customer service Been coming for more than 15 years but ...

Booked this cafe for my baby shower, expecting a really nice high tea and a good experience considering the info booklet and photos posted on the website. Very unorganised and unprofessional in the organisation of the event, still emailing me asking about seating the night prior to the event. Despite emailing and telling them in person a week prior my seating preference.

We arrived my group had been seated, I went up to them to tell them no more were arriving and we could get started with coffee orders. Main waitress informed me “the food was all ready to be brought out” to which I said yes that would be great, this was no later than 11:15 at the latest. Food was said to be prepared prior to our booking for 11am. We had an assortment of sandwiches all of which were stale and some soggy. Sausage rolls which came out stone cold, so much so no one ate any of them. Which you would not expect, considering we are there for food. One waiter when asked about wine or if we could have some teaspoons he grunted and acted very unprofessional towards the request. Even making some unnecessary comments about how he was exhausted. Just after having received food, it started to lightly rain so my aunty went in to let them know. They come out to give us more umbrellas but during this the rain was heavier so we asked to just be moved inside. In the process to moving us inside, food was getting wet as well as everything else on the table. Once we were seated two of the 3 teir platers and some room temp water was brought back to our table. Everything else was taken to the kitchen to where I assumed it was thrown out. We NEVER received “complimentary” juice. After being put inside no one else came to our table, no drinks or juices being replaced. Or even replacing of the food that was gone.

When it was time to go, they were insisting on charging us all $45 per head - the price for having including a glass of wine. TWO OUT OF TEN guest had wine so they paid $45. The rest of us did not so we shouldn’t have to pay $45 without having consumed wine. None of the hot food was “hot/warm” it was STONECOLD to the point my 1 year old nephew could eat it as soon as it came out!!

This has been handled so poorly by management, as if all 10 of us who attended would make all this up, after having paid for the service we didn’t even receive. The management takes absolutely no responsibility, continues to gaslight and manipulate...

When we arrived no table was ready for our booking.

We eventually placed our orders, some drinks arrived but many didn’t arrive until an hour later. We would have bought more if we couldn’t have gotten any service.

When the food arrived we got a few orders, then were told four orders were no longer able to ordered, an hour and a half after placing the order. Somehow after reordering the burgers were magically found and we hadn’t needed to reorder at all.

Had to ask for cutlery which was plonked in a pile on the table. The girl even managed to stab me with the fork in the way through.

Half the table got their food a half hour later. A good two hours in we never received our entree flatbread and two steak sandwiches. Despite the fact we asked 3 different people about our order that had been placed two hours prior. We understood it was busy but steak sandwiches kept coming out of the kitchen to tables that arrived after ours despite the rest of our table having finished an hour prior.

Yes it’s a busy day, but if you’ve committed to that many tables you need to be able to service that many. I mean two of our party never even saw food they went home hungry

Also an iced drink to me has cream on top, maybe that’s just me??

Also I had the slow cooked lamb, whilst delicious the description said soy beans and it was actually just frozen peas. Also said eggplant relish but I feel it was just tomato and onion, if it was eggplant i couldn’t see it, again maybe that’s on me.

Also I read someone else’s reviews about the ibis. I have to agree, if you’re going to have dirty tables near a hoard of bin chickens maybe don’t leave it sit out for an hour with no one come to collect the plates. No one came to collect ours, ask us about our meal or if we needed anything.

Never complain but today was a joke. Do...
