Have been here many times over the years - but I must say this time was the worst. Arrived without a booking and waited at the front - where there was no less than 2-3 signs that said "Please wait to be seated". After a minute or 2 of waiting, we caught sight of what appeared to be a manager walking around who greeted us with a "have you got a booking?" No pleasantries or at least a hello. Asked for a table of 4 and asked if we could sit outside. The response was "oh you can but we'll probably forget you're out there" so we found a table inside. I understand that everything is done via QR code these days - but we weren't offered a menu but people seated after us were. Was not a particularly busy time - but service basics were severely lacking.
Service was relatively prompt after ordering - however, to be seated was quite slow. I sighted at least 4 parties of people waiting for longer than 5 minutes to be seated and of that 4, 2 of them walked out.
Steak was asked to be done medium well, received medium rare, chicken parmas were of good size but dry and made with processed shredded ham.
Wait service on the otherhand was pretty good. Cannot fault!
Overall, disappointed with this visit based mainly on the lack of service to begin with. Not expecting the Ritz - its Kirwan after all. But just some basic level of customer service would not have gone astray. I have never felt so unwelcomed in an establishment before and I will not be rushing back...
Read moreDear Kirwan Tavern,
On Saturday afternoon we arrived to the Kirwan Tavern in Townsville to attend the event of shaving my brothers head after he raised a amazing amount of money.
15 minutes after arriving we were rudely greeted by a staff member who asked us to leave as I had my young toddler (not yet 2). Because they chose to hold the event in a sports bar families were not welcome. Even so, according to the QLD government children are allowed to attend if they are at a function held on the premises and supervised by an adult. So the way we were treated was completely unfair.
I was so upset I was turned away from the event as I was a person who donated and shared the fundraising awareness around with my friends to also try to raise money.
I am really disappointed with how Kirwan Tavern handled the event. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children. So why wouldn't children be welcome at an event like this.
Please reconsider holding these events at such places as Sports Bar where families are not welcome and are treated rudely. I have forwarded my complaint to Worlds Greatest Shave and will be sharing my experience with those around us and will not be returning to the Kirwan Tavern anytime in the foreseeable...
Read moreHave been going here every Friday night with my parents for a couple of years and have noticed that in the last couple of months it’s standard has slipped. My parents are seniors who always order the seniors meals, they used to come with a dessert, you now have to pay $5 extra. Seniors rump steak used to come with vegetables, order through your table scan code, no more vegetables. Tonight at 6.30pm roast has sold out (which is dad’s favourite). Last 4 visits no salt on table only pepper. Tables so squashed together that people from other tables try squeezing through our table/table behind us to order their dinner at counter Constant knocking my chair that I’m trying to relax in. Pregnant waitress delivers meals to wrong people at table, walks away and doesn’t think to get us cutlery so we are trying to line up to get cutlery to eat with.(her greeting was yawning at the front desk with no enthusiasm) We used to look forward to eating here every Friday night but unfortunately the standards have dropped dramatically. The size of our chicken schnitzels were small enough to feed a toddler....
