Review of Shaw & Co. A Shining Light in City Lane. I entered the door and was immediately greeted with a smile from the waitress as I considered the choice of tables. The gentle beat of music being enjoyed by patrons in a warm rustic timber environment contrasted the cool breeze of a table in the lane. I chose the table outside where the breeze was refreshing (and much quieter). A Shiraz awoke the palate with its dry oaky feel and dazzled with its expression of fine taste. I considered the wide choice of bovine delights that were dispersed through the menu and I chose Porterhouse steak with vegetables and mushroom sauce over the rump, rib and sirloin that also tempted me from the page. The vegetables were served with a dash of garlic butter which, as the meal continued, melted through and drenched their perfectly cooked crunchiness with the mouth watering smell and taste that only garlic can deliver. The small cob of corn in particular delivered a crisp texture that strongly suggested that the cornfield where it grew and its yellow form had only recently parted. And the steak? Ah the steak! Ordered medium rare (of course!) the juicy tenderness of the porterhouse was evident from the moment it met the serrated edge of my steak knife. The generous serving of mushroom sauce complemented the prime cut of beef as it disappeared quickly from my plate, leaving only the memory and the flavour in my mouth which disappointingly passed with time. I give Shaw...

I visited Shaw and Co with my partner on Friday 19th July 24. The place was not overly busy, but what is expected for a Friday evening.
Ordered the Chefās selection for 2. Starters arrived and they were absolutely amazing.
Main come. I ordered a rare steak for myself and my partner ordered medium rare. They both come rare. Didnāt want to cause any issues, therefore did not mention anything. Unfortunately on my steak, the fat was not rendered, therefore spoiling the main meal. Furthermore, the amount of uncooked fat on this steak really spoiled it for me. Again, the sides were amazing. Big fan of the potatoes.
Dessert arrived which was Panna Cotta and Crumble. This is where things turned a turn for the worse. In my opinion, the side for the Panna Cotta was gone off and masked with blowtorching it. This was the last straw for me .
Took the Panna cotta to the bar and asked the waitresses to taste. One spat it out straight away, one walked away and a lovely Irish girl agreed that the side tasted gone off.
The price of GST was taken off the price of the bill.
Overview, would avoid this place for the quality of the steak. The starters though 100% are worth it. The picture was some of the fat which was on the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had booked this place for my sisters birthday, thought we should try something different!
Our booking was initially at 6:15pm, as we had an event beforehand but that finished earlier than expected. We arrived 5:45pm, hoping to just have a drink before being seated, but the staff welcomed us early to our table.
We had a variety of food for starters including the sour dough, pork belly sliders & chicken wings. No complaints at the table, it was delicious! Which is huge, as my sister and partner are very particular on food.
For dinner we ordered the duck, wagyu steak, porterhouse steak and the beef burger with sides of roast potato, mac and cheese, salad and chips. Again, all absolutely tasty and cooked to perfection. One minor complaint is that the mac and cheese lacked flavour, but this didnāt ruin the meals for any of us.
The cocktails were absolutely beautiful and went down a treat.
Our servers throughout the night were extremely lovely, happy to answer any questions and our empty plates were taken from us in a quick, timely manner.
Although costly, it was not an issue as the food and drinks were delightful. We will...
