I arrived Friday to the oaks in Townsville south ,with my partner and Baby 17 month old from cairns,as a late arrival We got there around 11:30pm My partner worked long that day and drove as well so him and Bub's were in bed as I took a trolley to bring luggage from our car to the room, we left the car right outside reception entrance door to unload ,Then park In the time unloading I felt extremely anxious since a male suddenly appeared and ducked behind a rock picking up cigarette buds and on and off watching me ,I hurried up when he disappeared, another two kids on scooters also popped around the corner just about to head to the oaks car underground park, when spotting me and quickly leaving ,just as I was about to close my car door and lock I suddenly was approached by a indigenous male in his 20's with no shoes who demanded cigarette papers of me he moved in close in fast pace with an aggressive and entitled demeanor,I honestly thought I was going to punch me and Rob me maybe take my car? I tolled him that I was waiting on police due to a break in Which caused him to back off I quickly locked up and went through the glass sliding door back in side with my stuff, realising that the sliding door opens without a key card He watched me as I was waiting on the lift :( I felt so unsafe in that moment Any moment I thought he would just walk in ! Reception was shut at that point and I was alone :( Thank God he disappeared shortly after! I tolled reception twice / 2 different people and noone cared much ,didn't file an incident report notify management or called police, absolutely nothing! I feel very let down by staff and frankly shocked! I think the doors should only open by card for security especially at night 😞 The park house has no gate to block trespassers from entry the hotel property has no security gate or fence to hinder such occurrences . Now the room was absolutely filthy und run down from dirty windows to dirty floors and bad odors ,cobwebs and dust wherever you look ,to yellow and brown marks and spills on walls doors and cubbets ,the carpet was falling apart and lifting loosing dust and sand constantly My toddlers feet were black 5 minutes into walking barefoot on the carpet !!!😠😠 Stove top lights didn't work at all And fridge dirty The bathroom smelled disgusting and weird I wiped the floor with a towel and some water to embrace a brown black towel 😲😲 the shower glass doors were covered in soap scum and products And the hotel soaps and products smelled like weird after shave and musky I felt so disgusted and shocked, I spend all nite cleaning and scrubbing in concern of my child 😓😓 The balcony table was wobbly and held up by sugar saches ..the balcony glass was filthy and dirty the fan vents black and the walls dirty ! I was in the hotel of horrors ! On top of it our two cards rarely worked for lift and room doors so the kept giving us constantly new cards🤦♀️ The park house is an absolute joke with tiny parking spots which prevent you from opening your car doors there are not many parking spots at all for that matter..I can't believe that this is an Oaks hotel 🙌🙌like what on earth is going on here???!! I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THAT PLACE and the charged us almost 600$ for 2 nights 😄 are you...
Read moreI don't know where to start on this review, we had such high hopes for this place as the photos made it look lovely. We checked in after a late flight with a toddler and were a little shocked at the state of the room, the carpet was lifted (probably from water damage) we couldnt put our toddler on the floor for a play, knobs on the stove where broken off, the hair-dryer was broken, a cupboard in the bathroom/laundry looked like it had been kicked in and our baby cot that we paid $20 a night for was broken. Definitely did not look like the photos sent from our travel agent. We slept in the room that night as it was very late and called reception the next morning to see of we could change rooms. The lady we dealt with the next day was lovely and did everything to accommodate us into a new room. We had to wait till after lunch to be placed in a new room, but we're happy with our room and couldn't wait to relax. Unfortunately maintenance came up 2 to 3 times while we where in our room to fix a toilet roll holder and broken tv so we feel we had no time to unwind and it was a little uncomfortable. I don't think any money is being spent on the maintenance of this hotel, and it has a lot of potential. The pool was beautiful I'm glad we had a chance to use it but we not be returning to this establishment. Might I add I hate leaving bad reviews but it really ruined our one and only holiday...
Read moreI stayed here for three nights on business and would be happy to stay here again.
Very convenient for the town centre; within 5-10 minutes walk of all the main stores and businesses.
The suite I stayed in was spacious and clean, and had everything I needed, including kitchen utensils and appliances. The bed was very comfortable. My room was situated directly between the lift and rubbish chute, but I didn't hear any noise during my stay. I had a great view over the river and town whilst having my breakfast on the balcony of my suite each morning.
I didn't have much interaction with staff, but they were pleasant and helpful when needed.
The swimming pool looked nice, but I didn't have a chance to use it.
If I had to find fault, some of the furniture (coffee table and especially the desk) were definitely on the 'tired' side and ready to be replaced. Although clean and functional, the very spacious bathroom (which also housed the laundry appliances) felt somewhat dingy due to poor lighting; perhaps replace the single, dim light with a modern...
