I had dinner with 3 others at this place. It was below par.
We started off with cheesy garlic bread, which had next to no cheese on it and wasn't homemade - it's the premade garlic bread you see at most pubs in this area. I personally had opted for an angus porterhouse with some potato bake and vegetables, which sounded great on paper, as the rest of the menu did not offer very much to eat. The steak's temperature was a bit mixed, but pretty much what I asked for, and it tasted great with the mushroom sauce I was offered. Sadly, on the other side of the spectrum, my sides were not great. My vegetables felt like they had been frozen and/or steamed in a bag and didn't really taste like anything. I love these veggies in any other environment, but they literally just tasted like water - I had to dip them in my mushroom sauce to make them remotely redeemable. My potato bake on the other hand was hot in bits, and then cold in others, almost like it had been microwaved. I didn't have too much of it, but I remember it being bland, but still creamy. The other people at my table had a ceasar salad, where the chicken had tasted okay, and calamari, where while the batter on it was a bit chalky, it was still tasty. The chicken schnitzel was overcooked and hard to eat, and the chips were bland.
The service was a bit of a weird experience. We started off by walking around the entire restaurant trying to find the table we had reserved for hours before finding out that the servers had seated someone else at our table, not necessarily something to knock down points for, but I certainly felt bad that they didn't just reassign our table to elsewhere (there were free tables) instead of kicking the people out of the booth they were in. The food was a bit slow to come out in the grand scheme of things, but that's something I can give the benefit of the doubt for, since it was a busy evening.
The venue was a nice place with a nice large open roof and a good chunk of things to look at with good music playing in the background. It's nothing special to write home about, but it's not bad by any means.
If you really want to come here to eat, steer clear of the premade stuff or insist on fresh sides. To management: Frozen vegetables, premade garlic bread and microwaved potato bake is not what people want to eat! Invest in fresh food, so your clientele stays happy no matter...
Read moreOur experience was unpleasant. We ordered 600g Big Fella Rump medium rare for us two and a one minute steak for our daughter. The one minute steak was well done but burnt. It had a checked pattern on it from the grill and this pattern tasted burnt and therefore bitter. I guess the grill was not clean from the previous steak. Well you know what kids say about bitter things. So my daughter did not want to eat the meat. Neither did I. It tasted just burnt.
Same pattern on the 600g rump. Luckily it was not burnt too much. But the steak came in three pieces. That is why the pieces were not even one inch thick and the pieces all had different thickness. Result was that most of the steak was medium well not medium rare. Last but not least the fries were squishy due to the steak juices and it was just a hand full of fries.
Bottom line: food prices may be ok but cook quality is not. You guys are a steak hiuse and steaks are no rocket sience. Drink prices are also a bit steep. But maybe we were just unlucky. Bummer that there was nobody around for 30mins and therefore we could not complain. Well here we are... Once and...
Read moreQuite frankly the worst steak Ive ever had in Australia. The vegetables with the steak was apparently frozen veggies without ANY taste or seasoning. The creamy garlic sauce tastes watery and apparently not seasoned too. The steak ordered was medium rare but came out for sure more than medium. As this place is famous for beef I expected something at least better than this. The entree we ordered oysters and it was clearly thawed and tasted disgusting. We ordered 6 of them and we can only send all of them back cuz i do not want to risk food poisoning from the raw seafood that is clearly not fresh at all. The waitress said she would tell the kitchen and that’s it. No replacement or any sort of apology. Apparently this place is run by a bunch of people that don’t care about their food quality and service. It was the first time we visited Rockhampton and we will definitely not come back again near that place. My belly is still playing funny 6 hours...
