Terrible service and food. Decided to give the place a second chance after last time, where we sent back a toasted ham sandwich for being barely toasted, had lukewarm "hot" chocolates and struggled to find something for a vegetarian because, despite being part of the standard menu, they don't always bother to provide the fruit salad option. This time we asked for the special "leg ham, cheese and tomato toastie with chips" but requested it without tomato or cheese, no price cut for removing 2 products but they wanted to charge us if we added onion on. Even though intellectually you'd know cheese and tomato would cost more than a bit of onion, apparently it makes it just too hard for their business management software to do a swap (at least that's the excuse that was given). We specially requested that it be very well toasted but again it came out on bread that was barely browned at all. Very little ham, cold chips, and the cinnamon chips with the fruit salad were cold, stale and chewy. Unpleasant eating experience from the fruit salad with all the grapes being choc full of large hard seed, not a big deal until you think that when you charge $11.90 for a fruit salad, you could fork out for seedless grapes. No music to help mask the noise of the clanging cutlery, and staff were sweeping around the table legs of other diners while they ate and putting reserved signs on all the tables they cleaned to limit where people could sit. Been coming to this coffee club with a group of friends every week for 6 months and have ordered the same drink each week. Have never complained and it's always been a great drink. Today however the drink was undrinkable, way too strong and curdly. I am lactose intolerant so order almond milk. People don't order almond milk for the fun of it, let's be honest, it's not the greatest, but if it means you can enjoy a nice drink with friends, then that's what you do. Asked for a replacement drink and they agreed. 20 mins later and it hadn't come, so went in and asked. Was told yeah yeah yeah by Maddie. The drink then came out with cream on top, not the original order, so we sent it back with the lovely Julie. Five minutes later Julie came out saying I'm really sorry, but Maddie just scraped the cream off and wanted me to bring it out to you. I said that I wasn't comfortable with that as she knew I'd be sick from it. Maddie refused to remake it or refund it as she'd scooped half the cream off and figured I'd be OK with that. My friend then went in and explained why I couldn't drink it and Maddie didn't care. My friend negotiated a refund after she passionately made her point. I love coming here! This is by far the best coffee club cafe in Townsville! The customer service in this cafe is outstanding! The beautiful friendly staff and the manager of this place have not only created a positive atmosphere but they have created a wonderful little community that come here regularly. The amount of effort they go to with custom service, presentation of the cafe, welcoming energy, festive season decorations and celebration, kindness and care when serving, is like no other cafe I have been to. The food and coffee always amazing! I have been regularly coming to this specific coffee club cafe for over three years now and I keep coming back purely because of what the manager and her staff have created.
