Definitely the best on the Sunny Coast Don't tell anyone, particularly the Michelin Restaurant Guide.
Greetings All,
I went to Humble again yesterday with my bride. I have again looked at all their reviews. Here we are many months and years later and you can see on Google there are around 230 views. All are consistently 5, just incredible. This is clearly a testament to the creativity and talent of the owners and their team. A unique experience.
There are a couple of reviews by obviously “unhappy or just ignorant people”. You find them in life. So, don’t make the mistake of not understanding what Humble is offering.
As unusual for us a rewarding experience which was creative, unusual and tasty. You need to pay for great ingredients. Remember, life is unfortunately very short.
Now, I am also sick of the same stuff all the time. Where else can you get a “Duck Fesenjan” and the famous “Saudi (Camel) Meatballs” which were just wonderful.
I took my wife and my daughter, from my first marriage, again to Humble on Saturday.
As all fisherman will tell you Coral Trout is an excellent eating fish. It is up there with WA Rock Lobster or even the Japanese Spider Crab.
Outstanding restaurant are also special because they can "source" the very good ingredients. Guess what Humble does Coral Trout.
They get it from Mat who lives in North Queensland who, as everyone knows, can ONLY catch them by hand. Because they are cunning and hide in our reefs, don't they.
Now, the real issue is, once you get your Coral Trout. How do you cook it? Well Humble has one of the best methods carrot sauce with some honey and grapes. Just fantastic.
I have had a lot of Coral Trout in my time and Humble's, so far, is the best in the world.
Fearless Phil said at coffee “He has just had the best meal he has EVER had in Noosa”. He has been here 30+ years. That was really saying something, because he has also eaten and travelled the world to extraordinary places.
So, I had to take my bride there. We went Saturday night. I have now read lots of other reviews. All (continue) to be justifiably exceeding complementary.
It is clear visiting Humble is a unique “foodie” experience.
I can see an increasing global audience coming to this very popular, elegant & petite restaurant. Humble does not rely on a gorgeous outlook to offset it boring set menu which also has outrageous prices for grog to pay its way. Nor is it’s a menu “prescribed” by national recipes.
It is “unbridled” but you can be sure that is will be an original, cleaver, unique, an extraordinary experience. It is, in fact, an ever-changing feast. It is clearly inspired by middle eastern food but with the elegance of the very best ingredients available locally and in Australia. Which are presented in an extraordinary fashion.
Well done girls – amazing work. Toby you should have been an actor. Let’s hope this beautiful part in the world now gets more places like Humble. It stands alone.
So, I went to Humble with my bride after Xmas last, as a reward for helping me manage the "explosion" that happened when my daughter and her entourage "stayed" at our seaside cottage for 2 week over Xmas!!
Humble is still exceptional. My daughter went there with her husband and they almost had a divorce trying to share the sweet.
So, when I went there last week, I said to Bec I will pay extra for a second sweet knowing how wonderful they are. I took a picture of MY Rum Baba for you to see. Just fantastic. I could have had two. I do not share sweets with any one, particularly my wife and any of my girl friends and certainly not my...
Read moreI came with extremely high expectations, I left feeling fear… I don’t know that I will be able to put into words the depth of this experience….
From the outset, we felt welcome. Nestled in a tiny corner, it felt like an intimate dinner with friends. My tip? Sit inside, so that you can completely absorb the atmosphere. From the comfortable seating, to the charming spoons from different towns and the interesting crockery, the attention to detail was more than Nanna’s needlepoint.
The staff were supremely friendly, with Bec, our server, giving us an extraordinary amount of subtle attention. The co-owner sat with us for a chat. She introduced us to the chefs at the end of the meal so that we could pass on our admiration. I watched as every staff member swept the table with their eyes as they walked by, eager to enhance our experience. The even wiped the table between courses. We felt heard and welcomed. These folks were there to make sure that our evening was the best that we could have. We both agreed that we would have liked to have had a coffee with the staff after closing to hear their stories.
It was a set menu, with some wriggle room for choice along the way. We opted for the chef’s choice, with the most amazing steak being the choice offered. This was top 2 ever in taste and preparation.
From start to finish, this was a symphony of textures and tastes. I combined the lamb fat potato, roasted carrot, steak and sauce and it was akin to a religious experience…
My beautiful wife opted for the curated wine choices, but I ripped into cocktails. These were all served quickly and at precisely the right moment. We also elected for a digestive at the end of the meal, which partnered the sago dessert better than Saturday might, Netflix and beverages.
The price was as expected for a meal of this caliber. It ranks in my top 5 meals and dining experiences of all time.
We look forward to going...
Read moreThere's so much to unpack about the wonderful experience we had at Humble on Duke.
From the moment the wonderful Jade met us to the departing conversation we were greeted by name, treated as friends, invited into the Humble on Duke family and left with no doubt that this tiny restaurant will be an institution we visit Noosa more regularly to experience.
It's telling that there really were no weak dishes, no boring blah, just frankly memorable food we were welcomed to discuss by the owners.
Service was fantastic. There was no paying of lip service by asking how our meals were by bored staff or indifference to our thoughts. All of the staff were invested in creating an experience ensuring we had a great dinner.
Stacey is a truly amazing in the kitchen with an innate sense of balance. There's no formulaic following of convention, just cracking good food. I've thought long on whether I've had a better dinner over the last few years. There are undoubtedly others but Sunda, and possibly Gerards or Agnes, are the only comparable restaurants I've frequented. This from a small casual hole in the wall you'd easily walk past if not for the full tables.
Humble on Duke is also a breath of fresh air for vegan diners. Seamless substitution rather than the 'of course we can cater and we'll just leave off the cheese or forget the balance and flavour' meant my favourite dish of the night was an artichoke based amalgamation of flavour and spice that replaced the burrata for my partner's dining pleasure.
The food and service arent the only highlights. Jade's passionate and knowledgeable guidance through the small but beautifully formed wine list is fueled by her personal history with the winemakers highlighting a focus on organic wine and viticulture. I appreciated every wine I tried.
An easy 5 stars from someone who refuses to rate restaurants of average quality and thinks long and hard...
