FINALLY - a decent Italian restaurant, and run by an Italian! Generous portions, fresh ingredients, wonderful flavours. We have driven past this place for TEN YEARS (it’s changed hands a few times and the bland decor never made it seem particularly welcoming) and finally took the plunge. So glad we did! Five stars for the food.
There were a couple of cons,… The service was a quite slow, so we would say be a little more attentive to your dine-in guests as the focus seemed very aimed at the takeaway side when we visited. We nearly left, it took so long to get seated and our orders taken. However, once we ordered we had a friendly waiter looking after us very well.
Also, having talked with other locals who have never been in, the general consensus is it would look more inviting with a few hanging plants around the outside seating area, some nice tablecloths, maybe.a few fairy lights and some quality music (it was bland chart stuff). Small fixes, but they would make a positive difference to the ambience and probably attract more footfall.
We have no pics of our food as we didn’t take our phones with us, but it all looked amazing and we left full and happy. Highly...
Read moreIf I had the option of giving no stars i would. One of the most disappointing dining experiences ever. First of all there is a complete lack of ambience and even though we booked and there was hardly anyone else there we were seated right near the counter and the front door. We asked the waitress if there was another gnocchi option besides the lamb gnocchi which she said there wasn't. My husband ordered the seafood pasta and I ordered a vegetarian pizza. We then noticed a board with the special of the day which was a different gnocchi. Apparently can't have been too special if the staff didn't know about it. Despite ordering the pasta they served the lamb gnocchi which my husband said was inedible. The pizza was average and the garlic bread had a processed bitter flavour which when we enquired was told was bottled garlic. Bottled garlic in an Italian restaurant. Not only was the food very mediocre the attitude of the teenage staff left a lot to be desired. They were observed smirking and giggling after we paid the bill (minus the gnocchi). All in all I would steer clear of this place unless you enjoy tacky ambience, overpriced and mediocre food and rude...
Read moreI like this place. It's not Australian pizza, smothered in bulk processed ham - Italian pizza tends to be a bit sparse by comparison (no pineapple, no egg, no ground beef). The nice thing about this is that you can taste and enjoy the bread. So simple, and so comfortingly delicious, and so often overwhelmed by all manner of grease and salt. I'd recommend the Diavola for complex flavours; some of the other pizzas can be a bit bland, but people in Woombye tend to complain if their food isn't bland. Anyhoo, it's as close to traditional Italian pizza (North Italy, guessing by the choice of cheese - Piedmont? Trentino Alto-Adige?) as you can get in the surrounding area, especially when your kitchen crew is a bunch of 18-year-olds from Woombye. So well done Yuri, and well done crew. Service was prompt and obliging. Incidentally, I love a burnt crust, the blacker the better (brings out the flavours) so Yuri?...
