The most important thing for a bakery to do well is bread (opinion only, may contain traces of completely nuts). The dark rye is a work of art, something I would be very happy to receive as a birthday present (hint, if you stumble across this, my long-suffering and much-loved partner) all wrapped up with a bow (you don't have to do the bow, but it'd be nice). That being said, they also do very good pies and assorted pastries. I'm not going to review the banh mi because it just encourages people and this means they are all sold out by the time I wander in, so I have to suffer (oh! the deprivation...) through a deliciously tasty and fresh salmon and avocado rice-paper roll instead. Outrageous - how very dare they? The implications of walking into a bakery where they have sold out of many things by 1.30 are clear: it's made fresh every day, which means a sudden influx of day-trippers or a social club may strip them from floor to ceiling of anything edible (and assorted fittings and moveable objects) by mid-afternoon. The lunchtime stampede is a thing to behold, with trades apprentices and pensioners elbowing their way toward the last remaining pink donut, so best to go early. A walking stick to the ribs can be deadly in practiced hands. Finally, a word for the front of house staff: I've witnessed you dealing patiently with a certain type of customer (and I think we all can imagine what that might be). Even at the busiest times, you always treat people with politeness and prompt professionalism - even smiles when you are obviously run off your feet. Whether young or... still younger than me, you are exceptional, and, as a team, an asset to the bakery and to Woombye. You bring a great deal of small pleasure by providing a social hub to many people who otherwise have possibly difficult and sometimes arthritis-filled lives. That has profound implications. Long may it continue. P.S. (so old, just so old - like does P.S. even mean anything anymore, like WTAF) if you can encourage whoever makes the banh mi to include preserved daikon and bulk (and I mean bulk) coriander, I am prepared to revise my opinion and give...
Read moreIt’s not the world’s cheapest bakery, but by gum the pies and pastries are bloody good! The banh mi was a bit flavourless, however. This bakery/cafe boasts an impressive outdoor area with heaps of seating and tables, and every time of day it is full of local clientele sitting around, enjoying bakery fare and a coffee, and having a good chat. I would rate this place a top local institution in Woombye, every bit as sociable as the pub, and better for the liver! Packets of sauce, at 30 cents each, are a bit of a rip-off. Adjust down the price of sauce, Woombye Bakery! A place to unwind and enjoy, nonetheless. See you there! PS-They have bottled Norco Triple Shot, the best of the...
Read moreOur favourite place! Reasonable prices, delightful staff and management, a place where Seniors, young Mum's, regular walkers and locals can sit down, under cover, enjoy really delicious food, especially the pies! and sandwiches, lamingtons etc. Recently in an effort to contain costs, management tried some process improvement and stopped providing plates, instead small cardboard box boxes. Like a little take away! We all understood, but there were "rumblings". Yesterday the plates were back! Thank you Management,! Times ARE tough, so gentle reader if you are a local just come over to the Woombye bakery and support them!!!All the staff are a...
