Bar Fresko Gordon — Restaurant in Sydney

I will start by saying that I frequent Bar Fresko a couple of times a month, so from this you can guess that my review is not entirely unbiased.

Having said that, the reason I go there regularly is because I like it, and I am not the only one. It is not unusual for me to see other 'regulars' when I am there, so Bar Fresko is clearly doing something right.

For starters, parking is easy (and free!), and there are not many places in Sydney that can be said of any more. It backs onto the carpark at the rear of the Gordon Village Arcade, where I have always been able to get a parking spot.

The menu is great, with a lot of choices, and the food itself is very good to excellent, and (once again, for Sydney) a reasonable price for what you get. And the serves are generous. I suggest checking the Specials board as well, as there are often gems to be found there. If one of Bill's pies are listed, I would heartily recommend them. I am a bit fussy when it comes to pies, and Bill's are wonderful. The last one I had was Beef and Mushroom, and the filling had a lovely flavour, with the beef literally falling apart under my fork.

On the drinks side of things, in addition to a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks, it is also licenced. I particularly like the Berrylicious, a Bar Fresko concoction of berries, juice and sorbet.

If you still have room, make sure to look at the cake display, which is always a temptation.

I haven't been to many cafes in Gordon, so I can't make a reasonable comparison, but to be honest, I have found one I like so don't see the need to check out their competition. I will definitely continue to...

We ordered 2 coffees at this cafe. The order was 2 cappuccinos, extra hot with less froth. The manager who took the order said we don't put a lot of froth on our coffees, that is how they come. We sat down. The coffee came with around 12mm of froth. I spooned a lot of it out onto the saucer, which left the cup 2 thirds full. I then decided to speak to the manager who had taken the order. Before I could say a word she started lecturing me about ordering a latte or a flat white with chocolate. I said I like a cappuccino with less froth. I then explained that I thought it should only have about 4mm of froth. No she said more like a centimetre, then continued to speak about what I should order in the future. She was officious and very close to my face. She did not offer to make another coffee but said she would get a clean saucer. I felt very upset because I am the custommer and should be able to order a coffee the way I like it. I decided to leave as I do not like arguments and felt upset at being spoken to the way she spoke to me. My husband finished his coffee. I waited outside the enterence and when he was finished she made him pay for 2 coffees even though I had not touched mine and had requested she only charge for one. This was the third time we had been to this cafe and had noticed that this lady was brisk with other customers. We will never go there again. I was perfectly polite to her. So being a big breakfast connoisseur I take my big breakfast seriously as this is the heart of most places. And tally the only meal I eat each day.

However since doing a low carb diet I am not interested to eat any carbs. So as most good places I’ll ask if they would not mind to leave the bread aside and the hash brown and may replace with a bit more mushrooms. Or egg.

Feeling hungry I went to this place today and was told sure you can take away the bread and hash brown but we won’t be adding any more mushroom or a bit more egg and we will charge you extra

I asked why and she told me they don’t substitute. So What felt to be a simple request to add more mushroom I would be told I’ll be paying more to get less

I have worked out that I would be meeting here for the next 3 months and having a big breakfast each day every day however 5 days a week I won’t now they have lost $500.00 just from me it because of this. And a bad review.

The vibe here is if you are not over 60 your not welcome and the coffee is about a 2 out of 10 I won’t be back.
