-The Feed Punchers visited Beach Burrito in Coogee, which is a Mexican dining and bar, hidden through a courtyard on Coogee bay road. -The grilled fish taco, featured a barramundi tasting fish which was delicate and moist, served with cabbage and salsa macha. We felt like the taco was missing notes of citrus and a kick of spice. -The prawn taco was disappointing, it was overloaded with sweet corn and tasteless lettuce, the prawns couldn’t be tasted. -The karate chicken was a fried chicken dish, served with a jalapeño aioli and slaw. It boasted a crispy exterior which had a satisfying crunch. Unfortunately, the slaw tasted stale, there was a lack of spice and the aioli was very scarce. -The pork quesadillas featured; pulled pork, salsa Rona, pickled red onion, mixed cheese and coriander. The pork was succulent and juicy and the salsa was bursting with a tomatoey spice. -The Birria burrito was loaded with rice and beans, the meat was soft, tender but scarce. The Birria sauce tasted quite watered down and lacked in spice, but it had a nice savoury taste. The jackfruit burrito had promising flavours yet lacked in its execution and balance. The pulled jackfruit had a smokey-sweet flavour with undertones of citrus. Unfortunately, an excessive amount of rice smothered these flavours leaving the palate underwhelmed. -The beef taquitos were a highlight dish, with a crisp exterior shell which housed a juicy, slow cooked beef. The taquitos sat on a bed of lettuce and were topped with a mild salsa, sour cream and pickled onions, which perfectly balanced the dish. -Overall, a very average feed, there were some nice flavours, just some lazy mistakes, a lot of potential. Thank-you, Beach...
Read moreThis was hands down the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever disappointedly eaten in. Let's start with the drinks since they came out first.. I ordered a pint of 'Frothy' lager and what came out was either not lager or it was gone off lager. The beer that came out was amber coloured and awfully bitter to the point that I returned it and got something else. My girlfriend got a pina colada which was a sorry excuse of a cocktail.. Pineapple juice mixed with alcohol and pieces of desiccated coconut thrown in. It looked disgusting because the coconut made it looked curdled.. Another couple we were with got a glass of Sangria and neither of them ended up drinking that either.
For the food I had a burrito, she had a salad and we shared a portion of chilli fries. I'm baffled by how someone actually managed to make chilli con carne bland. Thankfully there is hot sauce on the table to give some sort of flavour! Her salad, despite having plenty of color, still somehow looked depressing. There didn't appear to be any sort of dressing or anything. Unsurprisingly she didn't even end up finishing it. My burrito went down ok when I dosed every bite in hot sauce.
The only reason this rating gets two stars instead of one is because the staff were quite friendly and there was no hassle with me returning my drink. The decor is quite funky and the mural on the wall was cool. It's a comfy airy area to sit outside.
I could never recommend anyone...
Read moreI went here on a Sunday and saw the sign out front and the menu saying jugs of sangria $20 Sunday special but when you order on the app they are $25? Anyway I ordered one and my mates ordered one and they came down to tell us sorry we are out of sangria but they would refund the money to our card.
At the end of the meal I asked if they had refunded the money and the waiter said no you’ll have to speak to the manager for that so we did and the manager found our orders and removed the two jugs of sangria but neither myself nor my friend received any of the $50 back.
That was Sunday 17th September 12 days ago. I emailed through their company form and have it heard anything back. It’s a bit ridiculous advertising one price then charging another even with a Sunday surcharge don’t be advertising $20 everywhere when it’s really $25 and customer shouldn’t have to be chasing you for something that should be refunded back onto a card immediately these days but I could understand 2-3 business days but seems a bit dishonest which is a shame when the food can be nice here.
I’m sure I’ll get the usual response oh we apologise for the inconvenience but I want my money asap and keep your apologies because the time to apologise was when I sent the email requesting an update but as that’s not as public as Google reviews...
