I have been going to Berlin Bakr for years. It used to be reliable, with good food, pleasant staff and a nice atmosphere. It was never spectacular but served good food and did a pretty good job. The last few times I have been have shown a marked decline. First, there are hardly any staff. This same young woman has served me and she just seems clueless and doesn't know how to engage with you as a customer. She takes forever to take your order and is very disengaged. The woman behind the counter looks surly and angry and run off her feet. She used to be really nice. Maybe they are running on less staff and she is just tired, but this doesn't help the atmosphere. It feels flat and boring. The steak sandwich I had lately, including today, is as tough as nails and not very tasty. It doesn't come with french fries which means you have to order a separate bowl. It is large at $9.90 and frankly the chips were hard and tasteless too. The place looks cold and unloved and they going through the motions. I know how hard it is to run a cafe because I used to own one but it is imperative that you give your best for every customer. Once you lose them, it's nearly impossible to get them back. I ended up leaving without bothering with coffee or desert and gone somewhere else where at least the staff engage with you and you have...
Read moreI’m sitting at the cafe right now & it is quite lively. The barista is gorgeous but could be moved to different cafes like say Parramatta as she doesn’t look comfortable at the cafe but makes very good coffee (could use good coffee beans). The cafe appears to be a family run business and patrons seem to be local.
The locals are very friendly and the youngest staff member who brought over my banana bread was very polite and had extremely good people skills, his mother must be proud of him, I hope my son Karthigeyan Pathman who is only six years old now will have excellent and clear communication skills like this young man.
Please note, you may think I’m being bias in this review and you are allowed to do so as I worked at the the Guardianship Tribunal for many years in my late 20s but I always enjoyed working here, the office was moved to the Department of Justice in the city and I had no say in this occurring.
Summary: Coffee is excellent, Barista lacks personality and confidence for the area. Banana bread and rest of the...
Read moreThere is nothing nice to write about my experience here. As a new Balmain local, I've tried it once and won't ever be going back. You could have had me as a customer for life...
My partner and I and our one year old twins were the only people in the Cafe. We paid for our meal at 8.13am and it arrived at 8.43am!
I expect a 30 min wait at a fine dining restaurant and even then it's a little too long. I definitely don't expect it at a cafe when I'm the only customer.
Others did arrive after us and they proceeded to serve three other customers who sat down for meals, before us.
We only ordered pancakes and an omelette. Very simple meal. There was no apology from the staff or explanation on why it took 30 mins to arrive.
Naturally our kids were getting restless and we had to eat our meal in five minutes, to get them out of there.
The pancakes were actually pretty good, but the omelette was bland and that's being complimentar. Definitely not worth waiting half an hour for.
This was without doubt one of the worst eating experiences I've had in...
