Bertoni Cafe is NOT just a cafe. Itās a place where the owners Albert & Tony have created comfortable place where customers have become friends who have become as close as family and created an institution in the fabric of Balmain.
Their mother Maria may she rest in peace created such a warm and inviting atmosphere and would sit on her stool greeting us with kindness and Ofcoarse banana bread and her charm.
I have been going to Bertoni Balmain for over 16 years. I have just about eaten every menu item, indulged in many litres of their coffee āļø.
Breakfast spaghetti š is phenomenal and so is the lasagna burger and Ofcoarse the Meatball.
If you like sweet, the toasted Nutella donut.
The staff are all outstanding people. I hope I get this right. Souz, Sourav, Mitch, Brig, Ang and Ofcoarse Jerry. Their staff donāt change like other places.
Whilst I didnāt live in Balmain it was my goto as Albert and Tony are amongst my closest friends and I have taken my friends there and they have always taken time to sit and chat and make them welcome.
Whilst I have moved away from Sydney and miss my regular Saturday morning routine at Bertoni Balmain I always find myself there when I visit Sydney.
So if you need to take a break and you can make it into Balmain, then head into Bertoni and take in the atmosphere and enjoy some homemade delicious food and Ofcoarse the coffee you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHi, we used to go to bertoniās cafe until we had an unpleasant experience, that involved my son of 2yrs old that is anaphylactic to all nuts. Every time we order food at any place we always specify our sons allergies and ask if they can cook the food separately to avoid cross contamination. The dishes that we ordered was a bacon and egg roll for myself , 2 coffees and a side of bacon for my son. My son ate some of the bacon and immediately started to cough, then his lips and tongue started to swell and got really distressed. My wife took him out of the restaurant and nobody from your staff took note of our son having the anaphylactic attack! We then rushed him to the GP next door to treat him, as this was our first time experiencing this, where they attended to him and called an ambulance immediately due to him falling unconscious and was rushed to RPA. The following weekend, my mother in law went into Bertoni to speak to the owners about the horrific previous week that had happened, only for one of them to say to her, āsorry bella, maybe donāt bring him here next timeā. In conclusion, my family and I will never eat at this cafe again, where we once would eat every weekend!! They absolutely treated this matter very poorly. We are just so glad that we have our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDropped in here on a rainy Saturday morning last weekend for a coffee. Stayed for lunch and desert, and what an amazing treat. The owner introduced himself to us and wanted to know our names; personable service such as this went out the window in the 1970s. And only in Europe have I experienced service like this. The food? The bagel with basil pesto and prosciutto was amazing, and the truffle cheese toastie was a religious experience. My long black coffee had a layer of crema that deserved an award. Iām tired of the rubbish excuses for long black coffees I get around Sydney. Not here! And of course, a visit to Bertoniās isnāt complete without a jam or nutella piped mini donut - the dough was made with lemon, just like the Amalfi Coast. The dĆ©cor of Bertoniās is like walking into a Roman alleyway coffee or pastry shop. Wood paneling on the walls and food/coffee that keeps the converted coming back for more.
An outstanding treat. We are not local but we are now regulars, well we will be when we return again⦠and again⦠and...
