New Star has been around for a while, and it certainly looks like it. However, don't let that put you off as it as lasted this long for a reason, or three. While the decor is a little drab, it is serviceable; there aren't an abundance of tables which encourages take-away. You are always greeted in a friendly manner and the staff do their best to serve you, and while the lack of any EFTPOS or credit card facilities make things a little inconvenient there are plenty of ATMs round the corner.

The food is very Vietnamese, street-food style. Nothing here is plumped-up or pretentious, just honest authentic meals. If I knew Vietnamese food any better, I could offer some insight as to what influences the food has taken on, but it seems to have taken on a Chinese edge. Having said that, there is all the traditional Viet meals on offer and with the range of food, you won't need to have the same thing twice. Meals always come with prawn crackers which is a nice touch and helps to justify the admittedly not-that-cheap prices. Don't get me wrong, it's not by any means pricey, but it's just not what you'd call cheap.

Good, solid Vietnamese take-away. You won't travel for it, but if you live in the area you'll find yourself coming back here...

The smell of pho hits you as you enter the alleyway even before you get into the restaurant. It was busy, but the service was quick. Good authentic pho, though pho personal preferences do defer based on personal taste. To me, it was slightly on the sweeter side, but the broth was tasty, and the bowl was large enough. Prices were decent for the area. The ambience is as authentic as you get from what you'd expect from a Vietnamese alleyway restaurant - the vibrant green plastic dinnerware pretty much...

I had the best experience with New Star! I ordered delivery and the service was great! The vegetables spring rolls are the best I've ever tried! I'll definitely be ordering those again. I also had a Pad Thai which was loaded with chicken and vegetables and so tasty. It was huge so I even have leftovers for tomorrow! Great food, great value for money and great service.
