Consistency at its finest, Brew Crew never fails to provide a decadent, creamy hot chocolate. I've held out on writing this review, for what reason I'm not entirely sure, I suppose it could be the many small issues I have that are overall ignorable for dare I say... the best hot chocolate in St Ives. Bold statement, I know. The price is average ($5.70), the cafe itself is cramped and you will often have to stand outside on the footpath, the cups do not retain heat well, on numerous occasions I have had to wait more then 10 minutes standing outside in the cold, the staff have been on occasion been ill mannered, although they are clearly under a pressure that is akin to a cold press. Of course, these issues are apparent at many cafes, after all no one is perfect. On another note, you must ask for a marshmallow (unfortunately common, in this day in age) which I was bothered to do when I first started getting my hot chocolate from brew crew, I swear on everything I hold dear I have never had a marshmallow alike to it. Believe it or not I'm not particularly fond of marshmallows, particularly the pink ones, I'm not sure what magic was in that plump pink rectangle but it was decadent. The raspberry flavoured ones were particularly memorisable, the fresh berry notes have clearly stuck with me considering the foregoing paragraph. Alas the quality of marshmallow has significantly declined, now just being a regular mediocre marsh. I think I am able to go so in depth with this review simply because I am continuously bought back, despite my qualms with Brew Crew and my displeasure to admitting this (displeasure that is quite frankly caused by my dislike of admitting something is good , but thats a me problem) Brew Crew has the best hot chocolate in St Ives. Weather it was the immaculate cozy vibes or constancy in taste and staff (see my review on Archies) that pushed Brew crew to the number 1 spot, It is there and it has little competition.
Overall 9.5/10
P.S. if no one noted my cold press joke I will be extremely disappointed P.p.s 2 weeks ago a new barista failed to secure the lid onto my cup correctly, resulting in half my hot chocolate landing on a brand new top… the new barista is okay, but her hot chocolate skills still needs...
Read moreFINALLY, specialty coffee has come to St Ives! I have only ever bought beans or takeaway coffee from Brew Crew so am only commenting on my coffee experiences: they have always been 10/10. The vibe is chill and cozy, the staff are such sweeties and the coffee is dope so what's not to love? If you're lactose intolerant they have a bunch of dairy free milks such as Bonsoy, MILKLAB almond milk and MILKLAB lactose free milk. Brew Crew stamps their takeaway cups so the liquid inside isn't affected by the ink, they have a variety of beans (blends and single origins), doses are measured, exposure to water is manually timed, yield is measured; we're seeing specialty coffee at its finest here! If anyone complains about the price or if it's busy, please consider the level of science, artistry and care that goes into each cup. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed. PS: if you're into Ethiopian coffee the Raspberry...
Read moreStopped here after hiking in Ku-Ring-Gai park. We ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich and a tuna melt, both of which were decent and just the right amount of food. After lunch, I got a long black which was excellent. They use Ona coffee beans and you can taste it. I sat out front and sipped my coffee, basking in the afternoon winter sun; a nice way to end my day hiking. I also ordered the chocolate chip cookie and a piccolo, which were also really good.
I have nothing bad to say about this place, other than the parking situation which gets crowded on the weekends, but this is of course no fault to the cafe itself. I would reccommend this place and have it saved on my map to stop here next time i’m...
