I recently discovered the beauty of Reservoir Street in Surry Hills - a tiny street with cute cafes, juice bars, sandwich shops and restaurants. I only came across this quaint street while waiting for my $5 Domino's Pizza around the corner (stop judging!!) :D

Ok, upon arriving at the City Edge Cafe, you're greeted with an array of FRESH flowers that are available for purchase. Once inside, you're going to have to take a step back and absorb the gigantic menu.. it's literally a giant menu from floor to ceiling but it has about 793643 sandwiches listed. I had the hardest time making a choice but I went with my heart and got the Roasted Duck with boiled egg, cucumber, mint, coriander, chili paste and hoisan sauce on Turkish bread and their juice of the week (passionfruit, carrot, watermelon and orange)..

OMG!!!!! Probably one of the BEST and FRESHEST sandwiches I've ever had!!! And the juice was just as amazing!!!

But the thing I was most truly amazed about was the gentleman behind the counter who took my order. I'm sure they have tons of regulars who come in and so they'll remember names, but to remember their order too?? I'm not talking about 1 or 2 people.. there were more than a handful of customers who walked in and it seemed like everyone was an old friends. Kudos for superior customer service!!!!

I'm coming again and trying the entire menu and so...

This place is one of the few reasons I miss working on Reservoir Street! They make the absolute best sandwiches in Sydney. Their service is top notch too. Tommy knew my name after my second visit and that is a HUGE task seeing as they have customers going out the door constantly. The lines are huge, but they move fast.

The sandwiches are actually big enough for me to take two sittings to finish, so grab an early lunch and beat "three-thirty-itis"/afternoon-munchies at the same time. Feel free to create your own concoction of flavours, but if you always order the same thing (after you've tried everything obviously), Tommy will remember your name and your order next time you go there making the process even faster!

They close over the Christmas break and it's devastating! One time (at band camp?) people left a note on the door telling them to come back soon and everyone left lovely scribbles on them. They're obviously popular...

City Edge is one of Surry Hills' finest institutions. They say when you achieve perfection, you stop looking, and perhaps that goes some way to explaining the enduring consistency that City Edge has delivered over the thirteen years that I've been frequenting it. Don't let the enormous chalk board of 40-something sandwich choices intimidate you - every single one is the right choice.

Indecisive? Go for a classic "S1" - chicken schnitzel with swiss cheese, lettuce and mayo, on perfectly fresh, soft bread.

With sizes generous and most options under $10, in addition to being one of the very best places to eat in Surry HIlls, it's also one of the cheapest. Don't let the queue put you off - City Edge have the kind of production efficiency you and your Kanban board can...

Honestly the best sandwich shop in Sydney. The sandwiches themselves are perfectly constructed, super fresh, and there’s a huge variety to choose from. My favourite is then fried eggplant and halloumi sandwich, it’s easily one of the best sandwiches in Sydney, and is great value as well. I’ve paid a lot more for sandwiches that don’t come close. The egg and lettuce is also the best egg and lettuce I’ve ever had, and everything else on their menu is outstanding, including the chips. The service is also super friendly, and if you go more than a couple of times they will learn and remember your name and greet you on arrival. I can’t recommend city edge highly enough

City Edge is a Surry Hills institution. The menu is sprawling and covers everything from simple sandwiches, through to gourmet Vietnamese inspired dishes, gorgeous burgers, healthy salads and everything in between. The business is family run and and you always feel welcome no matter how insanely busy the lunch rush is. Don’t be discouraged by long lines, the service is quick and easy. The food is so good and such good value I always end up eating here a few times a week. My personal favorite at the moment is their fried eggplant burger !

Amazing scrumptious sandwiches and burgers, and various refreshing juices to wash it all down with. My favourite is the duck sanga on turkish bread - the tender shreded duck meat with skin on comes with a sweet and savoury sauce and a chilli jam. There is plenty of refreshing ingredients such as cucumber and herbs to cleanse your pallet, and the toasted turkish bread soaks up all the flavours and adds a nice crispness. For $9.5 to $11, you get a top notch meal and an enormous sense of value for money. Highly recommended!
