Essence of North India — Restaurant in Sydney

We were the only customers in the whole restaurant. 5 adults and one 2.5 year old baby.

I was a guest to my partners sisters birthday on a Monday evening - 24th of October at 7.30pm.

To start the evening, my partner had to go to them to asked to be served. My partner found them at the counter sitting, talking and on their phones. Both male and female.

They were rude, no manners, on their phones, couldn't care less we were paying customers. They even had the hide to ask us to pass them the plates!!! When you see staff are busy and working hard and SMILING, you are more than happy to help. These two staff members are in the wrong industry. My partner and I have been attending this restaurant for the last 2 years and selected it for this evening. Never again. It was a shameful display and embarrassing at how bad these two staff UNDER performed.

On ordering, the females response to orders was "yep", "Uh-um", "yep". She did not smile once through out the whole evening.

The male was no better. We had to leave our seats to ask for beverages and water.

They made errors on the orders and did not bring out the correct food. They where shocking. The final straw for my partner was when the male asked for us to pass him the plates.

The whole evening was ruined thanks to the lazy, disengaged and arrogant staff.

When we were singing happy birthday they took it upon themselves to clear the table!!!!! This was just the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I had enough. I said "excuse me, we are singing happy birthday, is this the appropriate time?" My partners mother correctly said "are you here for free? Are you volunteers? You two have been absolutely appalling." They did nothing but stand there as the candles continued to burn. It was something out of the movies. It was the most disgusting services I have ever witness in my 25 years of dinning out. It was a moment that my partners sister will never get back due to lazy, rude and self absorbed half wits that clearly didn't care, nor wanted to be doing their PAID FOR JOBS!

On paying the bill, my partner and I asked them if they their customer service was on point this evening. Are you aware that your lack of engagement and doing your basic duties have ruined an evening and someones birthday. They both acted like sheepy children. Heads down and no eye contact.

We asked for the managers number which they conveniently could not find. We demanded a number, which the male found.

We received a call that evening at 10pm after leaving a voice msg on the number that was meant to be the manager, he was not, he lived in India.

We are still addressing the matter.

I have made a booking on 8 PM on a Friday thinking the restaurant will be packed and there will be a queue. To my surprise, 80% of the restaurant was empty. There were a total of 14 patrons including me and my wife. Out of those 14, around 6 were already served food. That brings it down to only 8 people who were waiting for food.

Upon arrival me and my wife were shown our table to be seated. There was a used dirty serviette on our table already. I did not noticed it initially and sat down to browse the menu. The guests next to my table told me that there was someone sitting at our table and left dirty napkin. Staff didn't bother to clean it.

We were then served water and I asked for a beer. We placed our mains order as soon as the drinks arrived. It took more than 30 mins for the food to arrive. We finished our drinks and water and there was no waiter / waitress to be seen for more than 10 mins so we could ask for more drinks. I would suggest the restaurant to hire more wait staff.

I have no complaints with food, it was delicious and authentic taste. Which is why I drove for 45 mins to get to the restaurant. But the service and attention to details left a bad experience.

I will probably not return to dine in, but will consider to order take away from them.

Pros: Authentic food, good environment and parking.
