Dined Sunday evening. Place was fairly full. There was no air-conditioning so the front windows were wide open. We had a very annoying fan blowing over us, and there was a fly or two sharing our food. One of the bowls had a large chip out of it. The waitresses seemed to have little grasp of English and were very cursory in their service. Thai food is supposed to be light, fresh and flavoursome. Our dishes certainly weren’t. We chose the “All time favourite” crispy skin chicken and the “Try me” Duck with Mamas Recipe Plum Sauce. We were provided with what appeared to be half a chicken (it was two legs and a whole breast), a tasteless sauce, some slivers of carrot and daikon, and a cloud of inedible noodle like hair. A massive meal. The chicken legs were cooked OK and the crispy skin was mostly crispy. The duck was a large slab of breast that had been chargrilled (you could certainly taste the burnt flame) but was dry and overcooked. I wouldn’t even be sure it was duck. These were a couple of slivers of daikon and some green lettuce leaves, and it was smothered in an insanely sweet sauce which really didn’t taste of anything but sugar, but there was a stewed plum on the plate. Again a massive meal. Only about half of each meal was eaten and presentation and flavour could only be described as coarse. A less than memorable experience and we won’t...
Read moreThere are plenty of great Thai restaurants on the north shore and this is not one of them. It’s telling that at 6pm on a pleasant Sunday evening that there is one table seated. Ordered a mixed seafood stir fry take away. It consisted of several pieces of some cardboard flat, deep fried monstrosity mystery fish? One minuscule scallop and 2 prawns. I took it back. Waitress I spoke tonwanted to argue that this constitutes a mixed seafood, she spooned it out into a bowl to argue with me!! Then had to agree that there was no seafood other than several pieces of the disgusting deep fried mystery cardboard lookalike. No kidding. No doubt they skimp on take out and gamble on people just accepting it. The rest of the meal consisted of puddles of oil, with fried rice being the only edible dish. I understand things go wrong and normally I only leave reviews that praise a business but there was a total lack of willingness to rectify the issue, even when they acknowledged it. In the end I asked for my money to be refunded for that dish and it was begrudgingly with the stipulation that it would only be this time. Don’t worry - there is no way I’ll be back in person or for takeout. It used to be pretty good but this restaurant has really gone downhill. Do yourself a favour and go to Charmed Thai at St Ives or Cozy Thai in...
Read moreWe have been coming here for what feels like 10 years most months ( apparently 7 only) disappointingly the service attitude has changed we were all very unimpressed!! Tonight even before our 2 sample plates was only 1/2 eaten they bought a main dish, we sent it back!! They came back again with 2 main meals and rice.We sent them back!! With food still on one of the sample plate they tried to take it away. When our main meals arrived ALL at the same time they were LUKE warm!! The female person at the cashier was adamant no spilt bills but she would take 2 credit cards and cash. This same person last week when I was there argued with me about no spilt bills. Last week like tonight we work out the bill with cash and 2 cards last week a tip was included … not tonight!! Since covid I don’t carry cash and I always pay my bills. Hanuman Thai you have now lost loyal customers not only with the friends I was with tonight, they won’t be back but with the friends I was with last week and I will tell my experience to everyone I know as we all...
