This place has definitely gone down since changing hands from Kanji Sushi to Haru Sushi. They got our order wrong, the food was made to a very poor standard, and the food itself tasted horrible. Firstly, they got our order wrong, even though we asked for confirmation twice, and even wrote down on a phone (so not handwriting) what we wanted. Instead of 3 Beef Teriyaki boxes, we received 2 Chicken Teriyaki boxes. The tempura was bitter, the agedashi tofu was made with the wrong type of tofu, the lotus chips were burnt and soggy from poor packaging, the sushi rolls fell apart because the rice wasn’t prepared properly, and when asking for brown rice, the sushi rolls were at best 10% brown rice, the rest being white rice. The nigiri was majority rice, so the ratio of sashimi to the rice below was so uncomfortable that half of the rice had to be removed before consumption. The sushi and sashimi special box was basically all tuna and salmon, not enough variety. All flavour and quality has been lost. Will definitely not be back nor recommend it to anyone to go to unless massive changes are made to improve the food and quality. This place used to serve decent food, and the only way it can return to its previous standards is by getting training for their staff, or by hiring people who actually know how to make Japanese food well and know how to take orders with...
Read moreI ordered from this place based on the impressive review rating on a number of website. After receiving and attempting to eat my order with three other people, I'm puzzled as to what those reviewers had. The sushi rolls were incredibly messy, and rolled seemingly by someone who has no knowledge of how to roll sushi: more than 50% of each piece was rice, at the same time, the rice thickness for each roll was completely uneven, such that some sides of a piece had no rice at all. The sushi was packed so tightly in the boxes that you couldn't pull out individual pieces, they were all stuck together and just fell apart from the efforts to pull one piece out. Some of the rolls were packed full of lettuce. Fake crab used instead of real crab. One of the rolls seemed to be just a huge amount of rice covered by a huge amount of chicken pieces and looked like a bowl of chicken and rice rather than an actual sushi roll. Overall, the quality was pretty appalling. First time of my life I had to throw out sushi as the four of us simply had no desire to finish it or even keep it for leftovers...
Read moreThis used to be Kanji Sushi. Unfortunately that restaurant couldn’t maintain the same level of quality its Sylvania sister store had.
Appears to have been bought out. The quality is still sub par and it doesn’t really compare to other local restaurants like Aomori sushi across the road.
I was curious by how many 5star reviews there were and how rapidly new reviews were appearing (almost hourly).
Restaurant is apparently offering a free drink to anyone who leaves a five star review. Sure plenty of companies offer discounts in exchange for an opinion but who is going to leave a bad review BEFORE they get their free drink and BEFORE they’ve even tried their meal.
In my opinion it’s dishonest advertising that doesn’t really work in...
