This is not a 'patisserie' but is simply a very mediocre food joint with the worst mannered staff I have ever encountered. At 2.30pm today I took my 85 year old mother to L'Annam on Hampden Road, Artarmonin an attempt to find something to eat around the area that isn't Asian - all we wanted was a sandwich! The girl taking our order was pleasant enough at the beginning until we asked for more details about the ingredients which clearly bemused her as she spoke loudly in her language to the kitchen staff behind her about it. I paid for the 2 rolls, and we sat down. Immediately there was an outbreak of hysterical, childlike banter and uncontrollable laughing going on from the preparation area between her and the other 2 female employees. The girl was describing our food ordering process in loud mimickary which lasted for well over 5 mintues until she brought over one roll to our table, then turned to my mother asked her what the filling was again for her roll, whilst turning round looking and laughing back at the 2 in the kitchen. More immature behaviour from them, so I stood up, told her not to worry about the other roll or the one she'd brought over as we were leaving immediately. I said to her that I know who and what, they were talking about, and that I have never been served by such rude people. None of them appeared surprised (probably a regular occurence for them, and they just don't care) and no apology, but she did ask whether I wanted my money back - no I didn't - think of it as a tip. Any other kind of tip would be wasted on these ignorant people as it's abundantly clear that they need to find some fun in their 'jobs' - just don't make it at the expense of the paying customer, or assume that we only understand/speak English - one day it'll backfire. As we walked out in disgust I explained that I knew their language and that I would be writing a review about them,...
Read moreI have visited this place regularly. However, today has marked the final time. They have many customers no doubt their food is good. On one occasion, I asked the 'barista' who is probably the owner, why does the coffee has soy milk curds? She probably cannot make coffee with soy, but she didn't take the Inquiry as a feedback, instead she just says that it is how it is with soy milk. Scientifically speaking, the factors that causes the soy milk to curdle are the coffee's acidity, and the soy milk's boiling point. Look, I am no coffee snob, but charging $6.20 for a coffee, I would expect that it is at least palatable. They took my order but gave the wrong coffee size, followed by providing me with a really sour tasting coffee that is inedible. Also good to note that anyone who drinks coffee knows that Campos beans are good (so you know precisely how bad it is, if the coffee is sour). The barista got really rude (from her body language), and said she tried her best and returned the money. Even her staff had poor customer service and communication skills, shaking their head thinking that I am difficult just because I provided them a feedback. Again this review is probably not very useful for them, as they would probably not want me as their customer or improve on their customer service. Reviews of bad customer service and experiences go all the way back to 7 years ago! *After reading a few reviews, I agree with the assessment that the staff is discriminatory, and I felt that vibe from the person who served me. Hampden 86 definitely has better, warmer, and friendlier staff. My $6.20 is better spent elsewhere than at a place that would rather not have my business. If you are reading this review, I hope you got better service than me and prove me wrong. If you had a similar experience, give a thumbs up so I know that I am not the...
Read moreWe decided to sit in rather than take away while we waited for our laundry cycle to finish at the local laundromat. We ordered coffee and a bacon and egg roll. My wife surveyed the other offerings of cakes and rolls and decided on just coffee. The coffee was only luke warm, and just barely that. My wife doesn't like her coffee too hot but this was even too cool for her. I like my coffee hot, so I didn't like it at all. They heated up a pre cooked bacon and egg roll except that it wasn't heated all the way through. As we were only there for 30 minutes and it took 10 minutes to get the coffee and roll I couldn't be bothered asking for it to be heated all through. I am not sure how long the roll had been pre cooked for. I do know that the egg was approaching rubber in consistency so I am guessing that it had been there a while. The two stars are mainly for the staff who were very friendly. We won't be going back any...
