La Tratt, Fairfield RSL 6 Mar 2021 Hatted More importantly, lauded by Gault and Millau

Specials of the Day MB9+ Rangers Valley Tajima Sirloin, $70 for 200gm. I suspect the piece being presented as an example did not fully demonstrate the marbling which is fine. This piece of meat once paraded for the night won't be used in cooking anyway, so why waste a more marbled specimen?

Risotto Scampi

Dishes Sampled

Bread & Olive platter - Bread was warm and presentation adequate. EVOO was fruity and a non-bitter varietal, the balsamic vinegar was more subtle, I suspect aged ~5yrs and for the purpose of being a side appetizer, this was good. Veloute of mushroom and truffles with parmesan crust. Very pleasant. This ought to be available as cream soup of the day.

Risotto Scampi Zucchini Flowers - FIORI DI ZUCCHINI RIPIENI Fried olives - OLIVE ALL ASCOLANA

Tomahawk for 2 - MANZO ALL'OCCHIO DI COSTOLA 1kg traditional cooked.

Fruit sorbet as palate cleanser proper

Pleasant décor, dimmed lights, candles on table Service with a smile - yes, this still counts regardless of how many Michelin stars one might have Olive & bread platter arrived in less than 60s after we ordered pre-dinner drinks. Very good. House soda water - as palate cleanser. Yes yes, it is a weak carbonic acid. That's how it cleanses your palate as with all things pH

I have never been so badly treated by any restaurant management in my life and even before we could sit down! I have been a regular here for a couple of years and the staff know us so I was shocked and appalled when we were refused service because of their "policy" of not serving groups larger than 10. Our original booking was for 9 (6 adults and 3 children) to celebrate my mother and aunty's birthdays as well as the upcoming Mother’s Day. It was also a special occasion to take out my dad who is in failing health for a family celebration. Earlier in the day my sister (family of 4) decided to join us so we rang to increase the booking and was told that since it was mid-week they weren’t booked up so we could just come in. To our shock and embarrassment, we were refused entry being told that the restaurant policy was not to have tables over 10. We asked to speak to the manager, a humourless buffoon who only made the situation worse by being rude and aggressive in his tone and posture. We said that we would stick to our original booking of 9 at one table and my sister’s family of 4 could sit at another table but they would not accomodate us despite the restaurant being practically empty at 6:15pm! His reason? That we are still one group and that they are not a ‘party’ restaurant. We could go to the French restaurant but not La Tratt. He kept using phrases like ‘do the right thing’ (as in leave!) and ‘it’s not going to happen’ (that weren’t letting us in), ‘it’s our restaurant’ (we can do what we like). I didn’t see any point in hanging around even if they changed their minds as they had spoilt our mood by their disgusting attitude. I made a call to Gemelle in Liverpool who were happy to serve us and we had a great time and great food! I see Fairfield RSL is launching a book called “A Place at Our Table” - what a joke! If you do happen to still go here after reading this review don’t order the wagyu steak, it’s a rip off with no flavour. I can cook a better steak with eye fillet from...

Without a doubt, this place is a hidden gem in Fairfield. I came for my wife's birthday. We were both delighted by the friendly attentive staff and the food was top quality with no faults. Perfect sized portions. I admit it is very expensive, wife's sous de ve chicken was $42 but the experience was well worth it. I had the cabonara pasta, the flavour is very light but all the ingredients are of such quality it was a very well balanced dish were you don't get sick of the flavour by the very last bite. The complimentary bread and truffle butter was heavenly. We had the dessert tasting platter with all three dessert items on the menu on it and it was beautiful. It even had chocolate writing with 'Happy Birthday' which was very much appreciated and enjoyed. There's a small lounge with low lights and beautiful artwork all around the restaurant. All the small details like the candles on the table and the fire place had a classy romantic vibe. The bill totalled up to be $138 for 2 people with entre mains dessert and one cocktail. But don't let the high price stop you from coming. This place was a wonderful experience and a must try if you are in Fairfield Thank you so much La Tratt, we hope to visit...

Enthusiastic, well groomed wait staff - hair tied back, nails proper in food hygiene length, no touching of face/hair at anytime was noticed. Good product knowledge in terms of specials of the day. No hard sell of drinks, in fact no pressure at all. Simply informed consent, offering the diner more to allow them to make their own astute decision. Overall presentation was pleasing. Quality of ingredients and overall creative infusion was palpable. Superb tempura batter brittleness at time 0, time 5 then time 10. It was eaten by then so I could not check cold brittleness. I enjoyed my surf and turf entrée - scampi vs beef-filled olives vs ricotta filled zucchini flowers could arguably be a meal of its own. The tomahawk was the highlight of course and it was a very pleasant piece of beef. 8-9/10, minor issues to tease out really since I was nit-picking for perfection. $184 with a $16 tip to round it up to $200. This is a premium establishment where you get what you pay for. The chef Jason, is a talented soul. He was keen to hear my feedback so we did have a brief discussion on the salient points and areas to improve. I will be seeing how the cooking goes. Overall, this was a pleasant meal and might be a permanent Saturday night steak dinner event since good habits must be inculcated. I had no room for dessert. My low carb dining also precludes any unnecessary dietary carbohydrates. The next meal will have to be wine paired. I might even order a custom degustation to taste everything. I would also prefer private room dining. Alimentation isn't just about food but the fact I can be far from the maddening crowd and enjoy a moment's silence. A man and his meat is a personal thing. #latratt #fairfieldRSL #NSW #Australia #tomahawk #1kgtomahawk #scampi #GaultandMillau #hatted

First time dining here on a Saturday night. I wanted to find a high class, calm and inspirational setting. The atmosphere here was just that with a gorgeous low lit setting matched with soothing music made for the perfect environment. Tables were well spaced amongst a modern setting. A great restaurant is made by the skills of the chef, just as much as the service offered by the floor staff. Not many other venues seem to understand that, very high standard here. Very attentive, polite and well spoken. I was greeted with olives and bread for an aperitif. I had the prosciutto wrapped fig for my entree, followed by the chef special Wagyu paired with a glass of Italian wine. I don’t usually opt for desert but decided to treat myself to the cinnamon donuts pictured. The bill came to $108 which I thought was appropriate. One of the coolest things about this venue is that they source their own honey on the rooftop. With over 200,000 bees all their honey along with most of their herbs are home grown! Will be sure to come back!
