Want to give five stars for the consistently great steak and veg dinners and nice staff at the bar, but can only give four stars because the furniture and decor is a bit worn out, but aside from that a nice and good value place for a quality casual feed and couple of drinks. Tip: if having gravy on your steak, ask for it "on the side". Steak nice enough without it though.
UPDATE MARCH 2025. Been a couple of years since my last review, and we are weekly customers... Ok guys seriously, you need to spend a few lousy dollars and freshen up the place. FFS how hard is it to buy a few dozen stools, replace the embarrassing "carpet", and just generally clean up the place? Shame to see this otherwise great place get no love from the owners. The great staff, mostly great food, and affordable drinks are fantastic , but seriously let down by the lack of care on furniture and basics. Don't mind the old / rustic/ unpretentious aspects, which are all valued. But there's a point where the owners need to step up and show that they actually respect their customers. Sorry this is tough love, we really like the Arms and want to see...
Read moreI had an amazing experience at the Macquarie Arms Hotel! The old vibes of the building are truly something special, and it's clear that the owners take great pride in maintaining the historical aspects of the hotel. I felt like I was stepping back in time as I walked through the doors.
The food was excellent and exceeded my expectations. I ordered the beef burger with a side of sweet potato fries, and everything was cooked to perfection. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable. I also appreciated the wide variety of drinks available, including local beers and wines.
The staff were all very friendly and attentive, and made me feel very welcome. They were knowledgeable about the history of the hotel and the local area, and were happy to answer any questions I had. I also enjoyed chatting with the locals at the bar, who were all very friendly and welcoming.
Overall, I highly recommend the Macquarie Arms Hotel to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable dining experience. The old vibes of the building, excellent food and drinks, and friendly staff all come together to create a truly...
Read moreThis was very disappointing. For a pub that has so much history to it, it did not live up to the expectations. Upstairs it is dilapidated, in one room it looks like the light fixture could collapse at any moment. However the old framework was beautiful. Could do with a paint job to make it look fresh and clean and bring out that old world charm. The ladies toilet was right outside or on the second floor according to a sign in there. Not very inviting especially when there is a hole in the ceiling. There is only one bar which services both drinks, food and gambling needs. When we visited today we were told that only the food on the board was available as apparently the oven was “broken” 🙄. The garlic bread was cold and came out with our meal instead of beforehand. The schnitzels were dry and tasteless. Not a family friendly place. It has a variety of dining areas but some were cold and drafty. A beautiful wood fire 🔥 would have been perfect. I would not recommend going here, I’m...
