This one star is also just for the polite young girl who was waiting on us when we initially went in; she was the only saving grace there. Anyway so you go with your friends to a restaurant at the end of a long day, hungry and longing for a nice warm meal, but you have to leave without even finishing placing the order - speaks volumes about the level of service one can expect at that restaurant. Well my friends and I had that misfortune at Indian Rasoi, Zetland. Doesn't matter how many people go there (10 or 15); unless the order amounts to a bare minimum $30 per head, you're not considered good enough to set in their esteemed premises. Generally in Indian restaurants one would see people sharing curries, biryanis etc., but no - here at Indian Rasoi you pretty much have to order 1 full curry and starter/biryani for yourself. The price forces you do to that.
Oh BTW I saw the petty owner respond to my friends' reviews in his typical aggressive and money-minded approach. So I would like to clarify a couple of points too:
You asked my friends where we have dined before and implied we are cheap, just looking to spend about $10 per head or so. Well we have been to a lot of restaurants - some much fancier than your pretentious eatery. For instance Churrasco's, Hurricanes Grill, Zaaffran (Darling Harbour), etc. Never have I ever seen such a policy. We have willingly and happily spent twice the amount per head than what you asked for in those places - as they're worth it. If we had ordered banquet meals at your restaurant, no one would complain.
The male waiter(I don't know his name) was justifying us having to spend $30 per head because of the service you provide - such as having glasses and plates ready for us, cleaning up after us, "in fact the napkin alone costs $1", is what he said. Aren't these the basic things one expects at a dine-in restaurant, or do you consider them as items of luxury? I'm so grateful he didn't mention the dish-washing liquid used to wash dishes or the liquid soap provided in the toilets.
One of you said we're ruining India's reputation by acting like this. Well Sir India practices "Atithi Devo Bhava" - guests are like god. That's a concept you are galaxies away from. People at dhabas and street side food stalls are more welcoming and respectful than you lot.
Go there at your own peril people and carry some extra money just in case they again mention napkins,...
Read moreWe’ve visited this “Indian kitchen” a few times before, but it had been a while, so we figured it was time to return and shake things up a bit with something different in the area.
The restaurant was reasonably quiet—it was early on a Tuesday night in the middle of school holidays—but once they added some music, the atmosphere felt quite pleasant.
Here’s what we ordered: • Butter Chicken • Prawn Masala • Goat Curry • Garlic Naan • Cheese Naan • Basmati Rice • Mango Chutney • Yoghurt • Kingfisher Beer • Sparkling Water
We asked for everything to be cooked at a medium heat level.
The butter chicken—a staple Aussie favorite—did not disappoint. My partner polished this off quickly since it was her pick.
I opted for the goat curry and prawn masala, and both were fantastic. The prawn masala was a standout—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The goat curry was tender and delicious, though I have to say it didn’t quite beat my ex-mother-in-law’s version!
The naan was spot on—soft, buttery, and perfect for soaking up the sauces. I did wonder if it might’ve had a better flavor with a touch of smokiness—maybe it wasn’t cooked in a traditional tandoor? Either way, it hit the spot.
The portions were generous, and we intentionally over-ordered so we could take some home. I’m happy to report that the goat curry made for an excellent breakfast the next morning!
The staff were friendly, and the service was prompt—our food arrived without much wait. We lingered for a while (stuffed) after the meal before eventually asking for takeaway containers. $6 for sparkling water was a bit steep but I understand business and needing to be profitable.
We tipped and left happy, and we’ll definitely be...
Read more43 minutes after ordering on ubereats, they cancelled my order with no explanation even though a driver was there to pick it up!
They cancelled my order but they are still showing as open according to ubereats and they are still selling the same items I ordered.
They seem a bit dodgy because they also use a completely different name on ubereats. I only found them to review because of the address. What benefit do they get from cancelling an order after 43 minutes? All they are doing is peeing people off.
I love indian food and sound be ordering from them twice a week if they hadn't disrespected me tonight. Store owner... What happened??? Please give me a really good reason to change my rating from one star to five stars.
EDIT: 19 Sept 2025 - They claim they never received my order but I placed the order, it was accepted by the restaurant, Ubereats claimed the restaurant was preparing my order, the ubereats driver was on their way to pick it up then the restaurant cancelled and screwed everyone over.
So if they never received my order, why did Ubereats see the order, why did I see it was accepted and why did a driver see it and accept the delivery?
The owner needs to not attempt to insult people's intelligence! I would definitely NOT give them a second chance now they have attempted treat me like a fool!
I have since found out from a local that this restaurant will cancel the order if it is below a minimum amount despite them not advertising on Ubereats that they have a minimum order amount.
Dear Owner, honesty gets you everywhere and attempting to insult people with an IQ that is probably double yours is going to get you nowhere. Learn that...
