This Vietnamese Roll House adds to the selection of Vietnamese hot bread shops around the area (see my review of Tom's Carvery at Rhodes) serving a variety of banh mi. Unlike some of the faux Vietnamese food places (that add a surcharge when you tap or use your DEBIT card thereby greasing the grey economy) around the area, this is an authentic Vietnamese eatery run by a mature lady from Ho Chi Minh City (old Saigon). I muse that the woman who runs this shop has spent years and years saving her money so she could finally run her own roll shop and realising her dream at the Point. Each Vietnamese bread roll shop has its own peculiarities when it comes to their ingredients, and this one is no different. Eating a Vietnamese bread roll means partaking in that family's recipe on the roll. As other reviewers have pointed out, this one is the no-frills, authentic kind so you pay for the no-frills honest-to-goodness banh mi. She sources her bread from Bankstown, makes her own butter and pate. I've had her Vietnamese sausage and roast pork banh mi with the Vietnamese ice coffee very icy. Her roast pork beats Tom's Carvery! The crackling is moreish and the nice layers of fat and meat ensure that certain deliciousness when you bite into the bread. On the other hand, I do like Tom's Carvery take on sauces and pickled vegetables but you also pay for those extra bits across the bridge. This little Roll House has room for price movement. As for the tradie crowd that congregate around this place during lunch, a gravy option would add moistness to the bread. The chili hit is palpable and, dare I say again, authentic. You cannot fault the freshness of her vegetables. As her bread shop's popularity grows, it is clear that she may need a helping hand or two. I have the feeling though, that for her, she has fulfilled her dream of running her own little bread shop and she will continue doing things her way, our very own Jiro Dreams of Banh Mi, perfecting her food...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was in the queue for a long time. and wayyyy later there's a white guy arrived and not care to join the queue just cut the line and pretending he came first. one of the elder staff saw him and went to serve the white guy right away without even looking at me. She has been ignoring the queue for a while and when a white guy came she choose to serve him as soon as she can. She acted like I am invisible. A word to this person: If you look down on ur own race this much you may want to restart ur life, just a kind suggestion.
Another younger staff noticed my frustration left what he was doing immediately and took my order. He apologized for fault the others did. the one star of service is for him.
Although I dont like their service, the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place has gotten a lot better since it opened. They have expanded their range and they seem to look less bare bones then they used to. I think the community has noticed too, thereās almost always a small line.
Ingredient quality is high. Rolls nice and salad quite fresh. Unfortunately the protein is half what you would normally get at other Vietnamese Roll places so ask for extra meat if youāre hungry. For that reason this place doesnāt have as much value for money as other roll places.
I would probably never travel to eat here but as a local Iāll come back again. But if I want to treat myself Iāll probably drive down to Xcel Roll where the range is bigger...
