Wonderfully surprised by the quality (and quantity!) of food from Rooty Hill Chinese Restaurant. The satay was a perfect amount of spicy and not at all oily, the chicken and vegetable had big chunks of fresh veggies and lots of chicken, the Mongolian beef was spicy and had lovely slithers of carrots throughout, the crispy sweet and sour pork came with lots of nice sauce, the steamed dim sim were perfect an the spring rolls were good too. All the food was lovely and while we had to wait an extra 10 or so mins more than what was estimated on the phone, it was worth the wait and we found some extra goodies popped in with our order marked "free" presumably to make up for it. The young fella at the counter was absolutely lovely and the kitchen staff were welcoming and smiley when they poked their head out into the restaurant. EDIT - Two years later and I could pretty much write the exact same review! Excellent food, great value and friendly staff, wish I didn't live 3hours away so I could visit it more than once every...
Read moreDisappointing return visit after 4 years. Used to be a regular when I lived in the area including all previous name iterations (think it used to have garden in the name?)
Ordered the lunch special ($12). Lunch special used to include a drink, now it is $1.50 extra. Ordered Mongolian Beef with fried rice. Didnt have enough cash so paid by card and was charged a random $1 surcharge.
I unfortunately ordered the same dish as someone on another table and when they split it, I ended up with a tiny portion that was mostly carrots and onions. Only 4 pieces of meat. The other person got a decent serve! The taste was still there and very good but shame about the serve.
They were really busy on a Sunday for lunch especially with large takeaway orders and woman server seemed very stressed out. Only looked like one cook in the kitchen.
Place is a lot grubbier than I remember. Floor to ceiling tiles and can do with a...
Read moreIt was just ok. Not good not bad just ok. Nothing special won't be coming back.
Ordered a few different things but the worst was the satay combination it was just packed full of onions like I love onions but there was maybe like 7 small cuts of chicken in there and a whole large onion when you order satay you expect peanut but there was absolutely zero peanut flavor.
All sauce was extremely runny but I do really like how they put them in separate containers so you can put how much you like on ur meal so that was nice
All in all it was just kinda bland. You could taste the pepper and a bit of spice but not much else
The staff were quite friendly even having a quick chat as we picked up our meal but the restaurant itself was again nothing special plenty of seats if you choose to dine out
Pros: separate sauces were rlly nice staff were friendly
Cons: kinda bland runny watery sauce...
