5 stars to 1 star, based on customer service. Travelled an hour to get here with my family to take advantage of a DoorDash deal. It was a new feature on DoorDash. The “going out” feature, there was a promotion spend $20 and get $15 off.
Well, Lo and behold the tap feature at the store did not work. Spoke to a guy there who I believe was the manager. From the get go he was angry and frustrated. Kept going on and on about how “the restaurant will now need to cover the cost” since the promotion didn’t work. And how it was my responsibility to contact DoorDash. No sir, it is not my responsibility to contact DoorDash because your equipment failed. You should be testing out your equipment before having these promotions for thousands of people to see on a mega platform like DoorDash.
Eventually, he agreed to let the promotion go through, while stating over and over how he knows “this looks bad for the store.” No, what looks bad for the store, is your poor attitude and customer service.
I have recommended so many people to this location. Friends, family and even those visiting Australia. Based on this experience. I am done.
Sal’s Pizza - you may have great pizza and I give you two hands up in the air for your pizza. But if you continue with this poor management. You’re going to lose business quite quickly.
A better way this could have been handled, is an apology to the customer regarding the device not working and honouring the deal, without all the anger and frustration. The $30 you lost out of your pocket that day due to this deal, you could have recouped from DoorDash after servicing the device.
So, for anyone wanting to use this DoorDash deal, if you want an earful about how this deal is going to come out of their pockets and how YOU need to contact DoorDash yourself for their failed equipment then be my guest and come here.
If you don’t use a deal, they’ll happily serve you, and their pizza is good. I give credit where credit is due. Their pizza is still top tier.
Lastly - to add salt to the already aggravated wound, on the way out my two family members thanked the same guy and wished him a good day and he just ignored them and walked away. Very poor management.
Previous review Okay hear me out - if you are from the U.S or want to try American style pizza, this is the place to go!
They recently just opened, and their pizza is phenomenal and I don't say that word lightly. The five boroughs was my favourite, it so reminded me of an old pizza joint I used to visit back in MA.
The customer service was amazing. The server there was so chill, friendly, accommodating. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
Highly recommend this place. Myself, husband, siblings and my cousin will definitely be coming again. But this time will be bringing more family and friends.
To be honest when I heard of this place I thought it may be another flop of a place, but it certainly exceeded my expectations. If I could give this place 10 stars I would.
If the pizzas and customer service remain the same this place has absolutely nothing to worry about because the quality of their food speaks volumes.
Thank you again to the server who made us feel welcome and who suggested what we...
Read moreWalking into Sal's, it's a pretty unassuming and small pizzeria. Most people would walk right past it not even thinking twice. To be honest, when we were looking for it, we almost missed it. To the people who do think twice about going here, I'm going to tell you to think again. Does that make it three times? Anyway, let me tell you about how good this pizza joint is.
For starters, we were greeted by a charming and friendly woman behind the counter who did a fantastic job of helping us decide on what we wanted to eat. She could see we were having trouble figuring out how to order and she made it so easy and even saved us some money on top.
After we got our order, she even helped set up tables so the five of us could all eat together. Now, I'll be honest. I've had American style pizza in Australia before and it's never even close. I've tried pizza places all over New South Wales and every single one of them leaves something to be desired, so my expectations were pretty low by this point.
We started off with the garlic knots and some marinara and oh boy were they good. They were so good in fact, the whole table couldn't stop raving about them and the sauce. Then came the piping hot pizzas right to our plate. We got a Five Boroughs and the Queens Deal, which was half pepperoni and half cheese. They were enormous, especially compared to every other pizza place around here. I can't even express the emotions I felt after the first bite. It was like being in New York having a slice. They aren't kidding when they say it's authentic. From the sauce to the cheese, everything was perfect. I would use a lot more exclamation points but google would remove my review.
Let me end this by saying this is the best pizza in Sydney and New South Wales. Nothing can compare. Perfect fold, perfect crust, perfect sauce, cheese and everything else. If I could rate this place...

I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza, a (burnt)garlic knot and pepperoni scroll. To my shock surprise the crazy expensive price came to $16.
It wasn't until I started reading the menu whilst eating that I realised I could've got a package deal of 3 knots, a slice of pizza and a soda for $15. However, the waitress didn't bother to bring it to my attention or offer me a better deal. I take this as bad service if not careless. They need to replace the useless human with an automated self service machine. Yes they screwed me for small profit this time but you only need to fool me once. I won't be making a second visit to be made a fool twice.
I was recommended here by a friend in good faith. Having eaten at many famous pizza establishments in Manhattan, I have a palate for NY pie. I can concur Sal's is authentic. A genuine rip off.
Let's face it, NYC street food is designed to be cheap, fast & nasty. In my experience the pizzas by the slice and hot dogs sold by street venders are the dogs breakfast and taste terrible, of no culinary significance except to satisfy the hunger of those on a backpacker budget or who are desperately hungry after clubbing with a hangover when all the proper restaurants are closed. The dodgy street vendor pizza shop is the last resort. Sal's definitely fits the bill, albeit an expensive interpretation .
The pizza is tasteless with an ok tomato sauce, just as I remember it from my trip to NYC. This is not as good as Crust or even Domino's on a good day!
Don't get it confused with the quality you get from an authentic NYC pizzerias such as Lombardi's, John's or Joe's. Sal's is an insult in comparison. Save yourself the effort and go to a proper pizzeria that doesn't overcharge to replicate the taste of a cheap place from the other side of the world. Even if the menu includes...
