On busy Anzac Parade, a stones throw away from the horse stables & racecourse, this cafe transports you from busy city scapes to somewhere cosy, warm & inviting with accents of stables & horses in pictures, saddles and trofies lining the walls. The warmth of this place is also reflected by the staff who welcomes you in warmly and are friendly and hospitable throughout my visit. The menu is classic and solid, providing lots of the all time favourites such as fluffy, 3-stacker, plate-sized pancakes which you can choose to have with banana & choc honeycomb or fresh berries. All generously doused with maple syrup & a big scoop of ice cream. Or a healthier, ever so popular smashed avo on toast with fresh cherry tomatoes, a scattering of feta & 2 perfectly poached eggs. The pastas all sound tempting & the chilli prawn number was a great choice with juicy sweet prawns and a good kick from the chilli. Then there are the burgers - you can order it however you like with whatever toppings you like. The concoction I tried had pink, tasty beef patties, chorizo, egg & a special, delicious sauce all on a soft brioche style bun. The Irish breakfast would please anyone up for a substantial, hearty meal & will surely cure a hangover. Coffee is well-made and strong and alcohol is also available if the desire strikes. Warm hospitality, great coffee, solid food offering that is well made and delicious, you may have won the...
Read moreHad an interesting experience. Decided to try something new for our regular local brekkie (normally we go to Jack's across the road). Wasn't greeted at the door (the owner walked away as I approached? We made eye contact... it was weird) and baristas had to call out for the owner to come and seat us. When we were seated, the other staff were very efficient and friendly, taking our orders in good time (hence 2 stars and not 1 star). Coffees and 2 out of 3 meals arrived as expected - our third meal did not arrive until the other two meals were almost finished. This detail was picked up by one of the waiters, who was very apologetic about the situation. We were not offered a refund on that meal. The food itself was decent, coffees were of a respectable standard.
I was interrupted mid-conversation with my father by the owner that dinner is also served at this restaurant and that we should return. Sadly, we won't be back. The food and staff are of acceptable quality, but the owner is rude and lacks common decency. Perhaps it is because of our race? We do not look white Australian, but my parents have been citizens for 25 years, and I myself was born and raised here. I hope it isn't because of our race. Kensington has a diverse local population... it would be in your interest to treat every customer with good manners, not just...
Read moreYesterday, I made booking via the café's homepage for Saturday 8am to have a nice breakfast with my partner. The homepage didn't say anything about limited availability of seats due to the Corona crisis. Today, I got an email saying literally: "Just letting you no that we only have 10 chairs available with 30 minute turn around for dinners only no booking taken . Kind regards Gary ..." They didn't even use a greeting at the beginning. Later, I called to clarify that my booking should be cancelled and spoke to an employee, who was very rude. He didn't even mention the name of the café such that I had to ask whether this actually was Stable Talk Café. My visit to this place was over before it actually had begun. My advice to the café: if you have a homepage, keep it up to date and do not use an online booking system if you actually don't take bookings. My advice to everybody else: go to a different place where they actually...
