Sunflower Lounge — Restaurant in Sydney

Sunflower Lounge has always been a lovely neighbourhood cafe for the locals. The food is nice but nothing to write home about. It has always been consistent in its delivery, which is more often than not, more important than fancy menus.

Most recent experience has however been largely underwhelming. The owner wasn’t in on the day and the crew running the cafe, (although the same staff as usual) were acting like high school kids who didn’t want to be there.

The staff were walking around inside chatting and laughing, whilst I managed to get their attention, they simply turned away. Eventually the same lady who made eye contact with me multiple times, very reluctantly walked over to take our order. Simple order which was consistent of a couple of poached eggs and some precooked toppers took over 30min to come out. Whilst waiting for our food, the same lady was walking past, and I politely asked if she could take the empty coffee cups which have been sitting there for 15min already at that point. To which she sighed, rolled her eyes and took the cups without saying a word.

Upon checkout she just asked if we’re paying cash or card, then activated the eft machine and turned around without saying a word.

Ordered the steak sandwich for lunch (2pm), only for them to have run out of Turkish bread so they offered to make my sandwich in a wrap instead which I found so odd… in hindsight I should’ve ordered something else or have left, but I requested my sandwich on sourdough instead. When I got the sandwich it was on rye bread which had become soggy from the ingredients and the few pieces of steak it had was so overcooked that I had to take off the top piece of bread to eat it as an open sandwich with my knife struggling to cut through. It was the most pathetic steak sandwich I’ve ever had and I will not be ordering food here again.

There was also a customer next to me who had paid for her bill from her table as one of the staff brought out the eftpos machine, and since I had my dog with me and didn’t want to take her inside so I asked to pay the same way but was rejected and told to go inside to pay.

Bad food and inconsistent service… do yourself a favour and...

Called into this cafe yesterday for a quick lunch with my husband. We have been a few times before and have always lliked it however yesterday I was dreaming of having mushrooms on toast which is on their menu it comes with brocollini etc which I don't enjoy so I asked if I could not have it which was fine I would just have the rest of the accompaniments. You also have a choice of I think chicken, poached eggs or smoked salmon here is where it gets tricky you see I just wanted the mushrooms with the minor accompaniments i think chilli, feta mayb avocado, I didn't want the eggs, smoked salmon or chicken and here lies my problem I could not order just the mushrooms very disappointing on being told this by our waitress I was not a happy camper in food distress I ordered something completely different which was probably very nice but my taste buds and I were very disappointed.
