We were at Lunas down the road and was wanting dessert but they had run out of the Portuguese tarts. So we walked down the road to grab some tarts and other things as dessert directly from the bakery. We were there closeish to closing time around 1430 but there were still quite a few items to choose from. Of course we grabbed some of the Portuguese tarts. The stock up front was empty but they fortunately had some in the back. We also grabbed a coconut tart and a Portuguese delicious. Every thing was really good. The Portuguese tart had a nice flaky pastry and silky filling. The coconut tart had a nice coconut texture which wasn't overly scratchy. The Portuguese delicious was essentially custard layered in filo, almost like a galaktoboureko. I quite liked the difference in textures and the sweet flavours of the treats. I would quite like to try all the other tasty looking treats there, particularly the cakes and doughnuts.

A patisserie of great note, and great prices, has 2 bakes daily, and retires pastries as the second daily bake emerges. At these prices, sweet belem should step up. The Portuguese tarts are great when they emerge, but are left all day, by the look/texture of them. This is tricky...ok, I have loved this place for decades. It's good. Sometimes really good. Sometimes sublime. Lately, it's been good, and increasingly expensive. I know petersham is now fancy shmancy wannabe surry Hills (which wishes it was West village nyc), but it ain't, yet. This piece today is a case in point. It was near the end of their day, so maybe I should know better than to buy a mille feuille based puff slice. When it was fresh, it would have been expensive at $10. But I suspect, it would have been an experience approaching worth the high price. But at 430pm, it was tough, almost stale and the flavours had melded to unanimity. And the counter peeps, on repeated visits, simply don't want to be there. Step up guys. You want pro $, make pro choices.

Deliciousness in one-stop shop 👍🏼 The staff is friendly and accommodating. They have great selections of diverse types of pastries, cakes, sweets and pies. However it didn’t comprise the taste and flavour of each item because all of the items that I ordered taste fresh and yummy. Must try is their Sydney best portuguese tarts. Sometimes they have seasonal flavours as well apart from the plain one (currently are raspberry and blueberry). The other item from my list is the creme caramel because of its creaminess and has just the right amount of sweetness which made me really enjoyed it. The stand-out choice for me in the second time visit was the pork sausages roll. OMG the pastry is crunchy and buttery while the sausages filling was balanced in terms of saltiness. Very well done! Absolutely loved it and needed to order a second one because it was super delicious.

Perhaps the presentation at the shop isn’t to some people’s tastes but for my money, it is the actual taste and texture that counts. And let’s talk about that taste and texture - the Portuguese custard tarts have a creamy yet heavenly lightness punctuated by a crispy shell (I like to heat them up a little when you get home to bring it back to “just cooked” perfection) that is not too sweet, the soft, springy donuts are injected with smooth vanilla custard and the mini chicken pies have a knockout creamy chicken filling 👌 again encased beautifully in crunchy, flaky pastry. And I could go on. There is nothing in this shop that I have had that I do not like - this is the standard by which all other cake/pastry shops should be judged 💫

A bakery specialising in buttery, flakey and crispy tart bases and pastries including their specialty pasteis de nata with their custard filling and a hint of cinnamon. You can buy your pastries and have it there with tea or coffee, or else takeaway. There's also a few savoury items on the menu if you want to make more a meal out of it. We tried a few pastries and they were all very sweet treats. The tarts are delicious, especially with the pastry, but personally I would have preferred the custard fillings to be more eggy and smooth than a gluggy texture as there was a little too much flour used to thicken the filling for my liking compared to some other pastel de nata.

The Portuguese tarts here are so over rated. The filling is definitely not real custard but imitation custard. It didn’t taste like egg or cream at all. You can see from the picture attached that the fillings appeared too watery for a real egg cream custard filling. So disappointed after one hour drive all the way ...The pastry is crispy and crunchy but the whole tart tasted cheap due to the fake custard fillings. The brownie is Ok but nothing special. The almond hazelnut tart was also filled with fake nut fillings and tasted cheap ! There was no nuts in the fillings at all ! However the place was busy at 2 pm on a Saturday.
