Post run food...Portuguese tart classifies as elite athlete food stuff.
We've been here a few times before, whenever we craved a sweet delicious egg tart. These things are as amazing as the word on the street.
We thought we might try some other sweets...and savoury in addition to the usual tart and corn bread. I selected the chicken pie, and the blueberry tart to supplement the usual. Possibly the best decision this year so far! The chicken pie isn't like your usual bakery pie, none of this chicken chunks in clear gravy and the odd green pea and carrot pieces, when the Portuguese say chicken, they ain't messing about. What you find as you take your first bite is the super crispy pastry, it melts in your mouth and the crisp is so perfect. With this same bite, you'll discover that the chicken is literally shredded roasted Portuguese style chicken, soft and full flavoured. No peas. No carrot. No weird gravy. Just pure chicken bliss. Sorry, no photo, busy eating. I'll take a photo next time, because I'm 100% sure there will be...
Read moreA patisserie of great note, and great prices, has 2 bakes daily, and retires pastries as the second daily bake emerges. At these prices, sweet belem should step up. The Portuguese tarts are great when they emerge, but are left all day, by the look/texture of them. This is tricky...ok, I have loved this place for decades. It's good. Sometimes really good. Sometimes sublime. Lately, it's been good, and increasingly expensive. I know petersham is now fancy shmancy wannabe surry Hills (which wishes it was West village nyc), but it ain't, yet. This piece today is a case in point. It was near the end of their day, so maybe I should know better than to buy a mille feuille based puff slice. When it was fresh, it would have been expensive at $10. But I suspect, it would have been an experience approaching worth the high price. But at 430pm, it was tough, almost stale and the flavours had melded to unanimity. And the counter peeps, on repeated visits, simply don't want to be there. Step up guys. You want pro $, make...
Read moreTwo of the lady staffs are so rude, blond short hair one is trainee I believe, and other wearing glasses might be more experience. When I ask for receipt, the one in glasses supervise the blond hair staff how to print, and told me the cash register is old, can not print in itemise format. I said, that's Ok, no problem, and they staring at each other for a second or two, as if I have done something wrong! Then the one with glasses ask the blond: "WHAT DID SHE SAY!" in front of me, they were standing right next to each other, if the blond one can hear, the one with glasses should be able to too, and should ask customer directly if you can not hear! And the lady in front of me simply being told by the blond one, I do not understand what you are descripting, if it is not displayed, that mean we don't have it!" And the customer left without getting what she want. Can't you find out from the chef or other staff if you don't understand? BAD SERVICE, management; please train...
