Ordered the chorizo roll, beef brisket and corn dish. Must be a new age presentation method where they smother half the sauce in edge of the dish, so if you had a lazy wait person, like we had they will give it to you sauce side facing the customer.. see pics. Food was not spectacular for the price and it was a very long wait time for the food. Beef brisket was too dry. Service was bad as we waited quite a long time for the wait person to serve us. I understand if it was busy, but it was not at the time of ordering. They were just casually chatting behind the coffee machine. For drinks, ordered a flat white and chai latte.. both served lukewarm. Not to the liking as hot drinks should be served hot.. etc about 70C and not 40 odd. The coffee was however well balanced and had really nice little bubbles making the FW velvety smooth. On another note, once the wait person took our order and after about a 7 min wait, the wait person was sitting down having his staff meal. Our order probably came about another 10 mins after that. In which another table was sat down next to us. After we have completed our meal our table was cleared. The other table was waiting for their meal and surprise surprise, that same wait person who has finished his staff meal and has done whatever he needed to do came up to us with the other tables meal.. there was only 2 tables at that time. There must have been a 30 mins lapse in between . Takes bringing your brain to work to another level. Below average food and service. A one time...
Read moreThe Copper Mill on Mitchell Road in Alexandria is a true hidden gem. There is literally no signage at the front other than the tiniest sign writing of the name of the cafe on top of the door. You can drive or walk past it and never know it was there. The interior of the cafe is pretty cool and rustic and the staff are friendly and helpful and offer table service which is great. The menu offers all day breakfast type meals and has some vegan dishes as well. The Vegan “Strawberry and Beetroot Chilled Breakfast Rice” was a flavour surprise. It was a $16 bowl full of all the good stuff. Brown rice soaked in Ulu Hye Nut Mylk with puréed beetroot, strawberries, ginger, spices and rose water, served with house made coconut yoghurt, lychee, mango, macadamias and fresh mint. It was a dish made in heaven. I would definitely go back just for that. The chai tea with almond milk was also really delicious; I bought a pack to take home. At the back of the cafe they had shelves stocked with products you can buy like sourdough bread, Bonsoy, Ulu Hye Mylk, honey, Sticky Chai, keep cups, coconut water, Vegan Teahouse Salted Nut Butter and more. If you are in the area you should check them out. Highly recommend.

Read moreI love this place. The Copper Mill is a staple in the Alexandria fabric, and whilst it’s a humble establishment amongst the townhouses along the street, it’s a landmark and meeting place for locals.
I’ve sat in a boardroom in the CBD and oriented myself with a colleague based on the location of the Copper Mill — somehow everyone knows exactly where it is, and Blackbird across the road is a blip on the coffee radar of any local.
The food is unpretentiously complex, the coffee is provocatively excellent, and the staff are an interesting mix of personalities that somehow gels to create a sassy and relaxed culture.
There’s a newspaper that floats about for a couple of hours on weekday mornings before it disappears. Where does it go?! The WiFi is fine, the password is cheekily on the wall. I figured that out after too many attempts, just in time for GoT, ha!
The weekends are busy and the muffins go too quickly.
My biggest gripe is the menu lacks more expensive and complex meals post-brunch. A $25 lunch special that’s a little extravagant would be a welcome change to the under-priced exceptionally-made...
