Nice cosy pub. We chose it for a meetup with friends after travelling and we'd been here before many years ago.
Arrived and ordered some food and managed to finally snatch a table away in the corner.
We enjoyed talking for a little bit then Trivia was running for 20 or so people playing.
The rest of the pub that wasn't there for trivia... tough because you could barely think, hear, let alone talk to the person across the table.
We then tried to play when talking got too hard but the sound quality of the PA / Mic / guy running it the sound was so hard to make out what he was saying even though it was massively loud volume didn't help.
It just made me unable to hear anything nor participate in the trivia or conversation.
What I asked for when ordering vs delivered was close, but I'm guessing the bar staff was struggling to hear exactly what I asked for in terms of what steak cut / size I asked for and didn't run my order back to me to confirm.
No big deal, the other cut was pretty good also.
We got a short break from the noise while we ate our food for 5 or so minutes only to have it start up again as soon as we finished our food.
We had to bail, walk outside in the winter cold and huddle around the heater since the traffic on the main road outside was quieter and we could actually talk... in the cold with traffic passing by.
I'm all for music and trivia and stuff in pubs.. but that was obnoxiously loud for a Tuesday night when you couldn't even hear what the trivia questions clearly.
I'm probably partially to blame here also because we should have looked at the schedule before picking the venue for winter wanting inside.
On a different night, without the cacophony of sound it would have probably been a lot different like other nights I've visited.
But maybe get your PA speakers, mic and amp tuned / dialed in better with the announcer for Trivia for volume in different parts of the pub.
All 4 at our table were struggling to hear it clearly despite the...
Read moreThe Greengate Hotel in Gordon, NSW, offers an average experience that has potential for improvement. While the location is convenient and the staff members are friendly, there are certain aspects that fell short of expectations.
The hotel's exterior has a charming and traditional appeal, creating a cozy atmosphere. However, the rooms themselves feel dated, with decor and furnishings showing signs of wear and tear. Updating the rooms to enhance comfort and aesthetics would greatly enhance the guest experience. Cleanliness also needs improvement, as there were noticeable instances of dust and stains.
Amenities at the hotel are limited, lacking a gym or pool on-site. Expanding the range of facilities would provide guests with more options for relaxation and recreation. The dining experience was satisfactory but didn't reach exceptional standards. While the menu offered a decent selection, the quality and presentation of the dishes were average.
In summary, The Greengate Hotel in Gordon, NSW, provides an average experience with room for improvement. The staff is friendly, and the location is convenient. However, the dated rooms, cleanliness issues, limited amenities, and average dining experience prevent the hotel from standing out. By renovating the rooms, improving cleanliness measures, and enhancing amenities, The Greengate Hotel has the potential to elevate its guest experience and receive a...
Read moreInvited to dinner there by a friend. Conditions inside were such that I began to suffer from headaches. The friend suggested I wait outside whilst he arranged to move his (quite large) group to the outdoor seating area. After I had been doing so for several minutes, minding my own business and interfering with absolutely no-one, one of the "bouncers" (short guy, shaved head) began to harass and accost me and promptly pounced on a WOEFULLY LAME excuse to order me to leave. In hindsight, he had quite clearly been "fishing" for precisely such a thing purely for the cheapie of flexing his "muscles" (Sadly, I know the type only too well.) Thankfully, the friend managed to change his mind so my 22km trip there was not wasted. Beware of similar treatment as long as that person and others like him remain in their employ. I would strongly advise against taking the risk. There are far too many local alternatives where the food and drink are at least as good for the money.
UPDATE: Just received the following from the friend:- "For several reasons we won’t be going back there. You were not the only one...
