The Wyatt was recommended by a friend who thinks highly of it, unfortunately my experience didn't live up to the hype.
Waited at the sign out front for a table for 2 on a quiet weekday morning. The 2 staff members behind the coffee machine didn't say anything even though we were in full view & the staff member inside had her back to the entrance cutting up paper. She would stop to check on something inside but did not acknowledge us waiting at the entrance. I had to ask the barista (which may have been an owner or manager) if we could get a table, we were told to sit wherever we'd like.
When the girl came over to provide the menus, there was no "welcome" or "hello". We ordered 2 drinks, the bacon hash benedict & ricotta buttermilk hotcake. Whilst waiting for food, the staff member just dumped 2 serviettes & cutlery in the centre of the table. No politeness & seemed to be in a rush even though the place was quiet.
The drinks came, my double macchiato was average. Not sure if it's the beans they use but it tasted acidic. The food came out, dumped on the table & away goes the unfriendly staff member. The food appeared to be a little overcooked (particularly the hotcake & the bacon) but thankfully didn't taste like it. I enjoyed the bacon hash benedict, nice flavour & the eshallot complimented the benedict sauce. The ricotta hotcake had a nice sweet flavour profile, fresh fruit, biscuit crumble but a teeny tiny maple syrup on the side.
When my plate was empty our unfriendly staff member snatched my plate & disappeared into the night, even though my companion hadn't finished. I considered ordering another coffee but apart from the above, not one staff member came to see if we wanted anything else.
I got up & went inside to pay. I was surprised we were asked if everything was ok, I commented on the lacklustre service. The barista acknowledged my feedback but perhaps with my perception tainted, I felt like he didn't really care.
I honestly wanted to like The Wyatt but the unfriendly & cold service impacted my overall experience. The food was good, the coffee "meh". I wish I could give a 2.5 star rating rather than a 3, I guess I'm feeling generous as I write this. There's potential here but service needs to lift dramatically for me to want to come back. I certainly feel that there are better options in the...

Read moreTalk about a bad experience this morning! I paid $15 for a breakfast burger that was made up of dry bacon bits, overcooked eggs and overall a bland tasting burger (I assume they forgot to add the sauce?)
That was not the end of it!
I ordered a croissant and it came out as flat as a lebanese bread. They heated the croissant in a sandwich maker ?! They didn't ask me first whether I wanted the croissant warm or room temperature, they just went ahead and heated it up in a sandwich maker! Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a croissant? I was actually looking forward to indulging in the flakes and layers of the proverbial pastry. (best way to heat them up is in the oven, Wyatt, not a sandwich maker!)
But wait, the experience doesn't better....
I ordered 2 chai lattes and 1 flat white - that's a total of 3 cups. I was handed with 2 cups only. When I asked where my other chai latte was, the barista questioned me. "Are you sure you ordered two?", followed by, "I'm going to have to double-check with the staff who served you at the counter".
Well, maybe they need training in responding to these kind of questions. May I suggest a less accusatory/suspicious reply and a more "customer service" orientated reply such as : "Sorry Miss, let me get that organised for you now" then quietly go and double check with the staff at the checkout.
By the way, their regular chef was absent so the waitress at the check out ended up making my '"Breakfast Burger".... which explains the picture...
