Arrived at Waverton Station around 6:00AM on a cold winter morning, from Western Sydney. So walk around the area for 30 minutes waiting for a cafe to open. At 6:30AM, the staff of the Grumpy Baker opened the doors. Ordered two pies. Wow, expensive. Sat outside at one of the tables in "freezing cold" 2'C temporary. Again, wow burning hot pies. Half eating and half blowing onto the pies to cool them down, I managed to finished the two pies twenty minutes later. If you ever have pies here, remember they are BURNING HOT. Overall, this is an experience. The food was great. The atmosphere was good. The service was friendly. However, this would the one and only time I would pay for the expensive pies again, regardless how delicious they are. It is not because they done anything wrong. It is just too expensive for an average person from Western Sydney. One thing they could change is open 30 mins earlier.

The Grumpy Baker is one of my favourite bakeries. They do deliciously yummy food. There are many locations of this bakery in and around the city. Over time, I have eaten my way through a lot of sweet treats and savoury offerings with everything I have eaten being really great. On this occasion, I ordered an almond crossiant ($7.50). It had a crunchy exterior with lots of shaved almonds on top. The interior was light, fluffy, buttery, and filled with almond frangipane. It was just right in terms of sweetness. It was a really nice, indulgent treat. The serving size was good, too. I would highly recommend visiting The Grumpy Baker!

My wife and I were driving through Waverton , feeling hungry and looking for a quick bite. The Grumpy Baker looked interesting, so we got a pie and sausage roll. Well, $16.50 later, I thought this better be really good, but alas. The sausage roll meat was unpleasantly sweet, dry, compressed minced beef (not pork) and disproportionately large compared to the pastry. The pie was good, but again, not what I was anticipating. I just wanted a plain old pie with meat & gravy inside. Instead, it was chunky meat in a sloppy tomato based sauce (my dog loved the pie meat, but wouldn't touch the sausage roll). Sometimes 'plain' is better!

With limited choice at Waverton, the Grumpy Baker is the place to go. Overall there’s some good stuff being made, but the quality and service is wildly inconsistent. I’m there almost daily, and it’s a coin toss what the day will bring. The amount of times I get muffins that are literally burnt to a crisp – top and bottom – that I have to dig out non burnt muffin flesh from a black charred muffin shell is way too often. Here’s the thing – anybody can burn muffins and pastries – but if you’re a bakery and muffins and pastries are your core business, it speaks volumes when you put visibly burnt goods on display and sell them to customers at full price instead of throwing them away because they don’t meet internal quality requirements. This signals not only poor quality control but poor standards as a business. Here’s things I would improve: a bit more customer care and attention to detail in both service and quality of produce, the savoury items are way too dry and border on inedible, burnt items should not be sold let alone at full price without warning, and as a bakery it’s kind of wild that the cabinet is still mostly empty after 9am and basics are just not ready yet for sale. You open at 6:30am and 3 hours after opening you’re still in the process of baking the first batch of goods. You’re a bakery, please have stuff baked when you open so it can...

The coffee and bakery products are excellent. It's a shame that the service is not up to the quality of the products. No wonder the cafƩ next door was pumping, but there were free tables at the Grumpy Baker.

1st time there we took a bread loaf. When we got home we saw it was half empty inside. Understand this can happen with bread, but we asked for it to be sliced, so whoever did that would've noticed. 2nd time, they doubled my order even though it was as simple as 1 order of toasts. I didn't realised when paying as I didn't look at the card machine and the price or order was not said to me out loud. 3rd time, I ordered for a group of 4 to dine in. We all received the pastries and coffee in disposable trays and cups, including a big plastic cup with a big plastic lid for a cold drink. If we knew it was going to be that way we would've gone somewhere else, we got a table just to avoid the disposable cups. When I mentioned it to the staff that brought it, she gave me a bad look and walked away. Living up to the shop's name

Small things that add up to a bad experience. Such easy...

The staff were very ill mannered, when ordering, the assistant seemed annoyed that we were getting a few things from the display unit and when trying to explain what we wanted was being very snarky that we didn't know what the items were, due to the fact that there was incorrect/no signage. When we asked for a bag to take an un-eaten bakery item home from our sit down breakfast, we were greeted with rolled eyes and an "I guess".

The food was mediocre for the price that they are charging. What I thought was a cinnamon scroll was a cinnamon scrolled donut that was very doughy, with very little cinnamon or flavor.

At our table near the old fire place there were dead and dying plants, and there were many fruit flies that were flying around our table and landing in our drinks and food.

When going to use the rest room, it was soiled and very dirty, we notified staff that were extremely displeased that we had told them, to the point that we apologised for bringing it to their attention.

Will not be back nor would I reccomend anyone...
