TLDR: food hit & miss - really tasty or bad, slow service but good with dietary requirements, pricey - on the fence for value
Full review: work team dinner event.
The venue is one of those places that has an eclectic decor. It had a good level of noise so that the place felt energetic without needing you to yell at the person sitting opposite. However, the tables are awkwardly sized/shaped if you intend to share anything. You'll just need to ask someone to pass the sides around.
Service was slow and we found we looked around several times before food arrived. On the other hand, staff were attentive to dietary requirements which we had flagged as part of the reservation we had made.
The entrees were not very good. We ordered oysters. They were unexpectedly small and even worse, 2 out of the 5 were old and had a very strong fishy aftertaste... or to quote, "stanky". The hummus and baba that came with the toasted flatbread was very plain, to the point a colleague preferred butter. The chips were great though. They were crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, perfectly salted, and came with aoli.
The mains were much better and everyone generally enjoyed their dishes. My duck leg was modified for my dietary requirement which left it unbalanced but what I did have was tasty, especially the roasted garlic.
Dessert was delicious. I was impressed with the roulade. It was the perfect balance of sweet, soft, cold, fluffy, tart for me.
Overall, I'm not quite sure the price tag was worth the experience, though I've been told that people usually only come here for...
Read moreIs TreeHouse racist? That is a question I have to ask myself after meeting 3x Indian colleagues and a Singaporean colleague for a recent lunch meeting. The 5x of us ordered lunch at 1pm. At 1:50pm, none of us had received our meal, I called the waitress over, and politely advised I needed to cancel my portion of the meal, as I needed to leave for a 2pm meeting. She offered to get it for me as take-away, which I again politely declined as I didn't have time to wait for my meal. I promptly said goodbye to my colleagues and left the restaurant. I found out today that the waitress had accused our table of being rude, and directed the restaurant owners to the one of my Indian colleagues wearing a turban, where they insisted that they wouldn't accept rude or abusive behavior towards their staff and that my actions had caused their waitress to be in tears over the incident. Noting that my turban wearing colleague hadn't been involved in any of the discussion to this point, either in placing the order, or in my need to leave the restaurant and cancel my portion of the order, but the whole subsequent discussion was directed to my turban wearing colleague! Furthermore the restaurant proceeded to leave my meal in the table bill, even though I had left the restaurant. My colleagues in an effort to avoid creating anymore of a scene in the busy restaurant politely chose to pay the entire bill, including my meal. ... needless to say none of us will ever be dining at TreeHouse again after such an...
Read moreNorth Sydney is usually not known for its good drinking holes bit this is one I'd recommend. Popular with the business community during the week for both lunch and after work drinks, it actually has a good vibe and nice set out for both small to medium groups. Its a good place to get away for a quiet drink or catch up with a friend or colleague whilst at the same time getting away from the usual noise of larger venues. Also handy walking distance to North Sydney train station and next to Greenwood Shopping Plaza.
The food is actually quite good as far as bar food and light snacks are concerned about the restaurant which has its own sit down area as you first walk in (to the right) had very good food so would definitely recommend you try if you get the chance. Overall a great alternative to the other popular hotels in the area namely Greenwood and Firehouse....
