The Old Civic Cafe & Diner — Restaurant in Sydney

It's nothing to write home about, the view is overlooking the carpark, it's not kid friendly the service was slow, even though there was only two of us in there. I noticed 3 staff members, 1 was sweeping, the other two were sitting down doing nothing at all. I was waiting for a friend but none of them came and asked if I wanted anything until my friend turned up and called out to them. The coffee was average. I didn't try the food, so I can't comment but It would of been nice to be offered a menu and maybe I would ordered food. The specials on the board were hard to read if you didn't check it out before you sat down. All in all I won't be stopping in there again. Food and coffee are both good here - though coffee has gone up in price, to $3.80 for a regular coffee (from $3.50). Baristas are good and the staff are always friendly. Also a good selection of teas on offer, and served in a very cute teapot for one.

Food is American style, which is nice — I prefer the breakfast menu to lunch, with lighter options available vs. massive burgers (there are lighter lunch options too, I just love the brekky menu). There’s a good selection of baked goods as well.

Yeah, it's OK. The menu is not what you would call extensive and is a little unusual. For instance. There were a few different burgers to choose from but if you are looking for a garden variety hamburger you won't find it here. Regular hamburger with bacon, egg and beetroot? Nothing remotely like that on the menu. I had a steak sandwich and asked for an egg on it. My wife had a prawn salad which was very nice, with five prawns. If you are a vegetarian the options are VERY limited but if you are a pescatarian the options are better. The cafe needs some TLC and a bit of a freshen up. It is looking a little tired.
