I had begun to feel that there was something stale in the suburb of Belrose, and I had a knead for something fresh. My regular sources of confectionaries & loaves, well, let's just say the glaze had become blasƩ. I'd heard good things about Mrs Jones the Baker and decided to seek proof.
I can't work anymore baking puns into this review, which is a pity, as I do love a good pun, but not as much as I love the food here. The bread is so great, and I urge you not to forget about the bread here after you've tried the cakes, because the cakes are so good. I think I encountered the platonic ideal of the fruit danish here. Did you know that danishes can be fluffy and cunchy? I thought they were supposed to be kind of soggy, and then I had a Mrs Jones danish and realised that every danish I had eaten before was a lie. Go check out the photos, or even better, get in there and get some, they are amazing.
I've just written half a paragraph on the danish, and trust me, the other cakes are just as good. before I write another half paragraph on danishes, I want to come back to the bread. Bread can seem unsexy when you're confronted with the mind blowing cakes. But bread has got your back. Bread will feed you for several sittings. Sourdough bread is there for you, a nice low GI food to see you through the day. So don't scrimp on bread. Life is too short to eat Tip-Top. Eat bread that is beautiful. Eat bread that is a pleasure to prepare. Take two minutes, let the rest of the world go and mindfully cut that bread into slices. Let this this bread be the joyful experience that makes your day better. Cakes are a great rush, a mad passionate fling of flavour, but bread? Bread is for life.
So pop in next time you're walking past. Take ten minutes out of your soul crushing commute on Forest Way. Combine your love of bread and cakes here, at this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCame here as recommended by several friends. And I love this place! The shop is spacious and comfortable. Not a lot of seating but I was prepared to get takeaway. Display is large with a great variety. Staff was very friendly with a great smile and welcomed me. Doesnāt seemed bothered at all in helping me choosing things. Coffee was exceptional. I went there at 2pm and still got sufficient amount to choose from. Croissant was not straight out of the oven obviously but still delicious and perfect with the coffee. The ginger and carrot cake was too sweet though, not to my taste. I must comment on the sourdough. I bought a garlic and Parmesan sourdough and it was spectacular!! Omg itās the best sourdough I have ever had and I donāt even like sourdough normally. It was moist and soft on the inside, tasty with the flavour, smooth sour but not overpowering, and the crust didnāt break my teeth. Amazing. Will definitely come back for the sourdough and try out different cakes. My friend bought a berry and cheesecake once which was amazing, which is why I wanted to come here...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest place to get a delicious croissant. Tried the almond and chocolate ones but most of the time we love the simple plain croissants. They are fresh and fluffy with less sugar than other places. They are really the best in the local area. Probably best in Sydney. Food is great and the have a lot of interesting sweets and cakes. The ice cream is a treat as well.
Coffee is good but a bit too weak for the cappuccino, perhaps the beans are not strong enough to get through the milk or the shots are too small? Asking for a double shot does the trick though, with an extra expense.
Service is very very good. You are treated so nice, itās hard not to wan to come back.
The seating area is cosy outside and gets filled almost all the time. Come in early for a good choice.
Highly...
