The Shed Cafe - Stanhope Gardens — Restaurant in Sydney

I've visited this location twice and unfortunately had disappointing experiences both times. First visit: I ordered a cappuccino but received a latte instead. When I pointed this out, the staff insisted they were "exactly the same" and that they "just add some chocolate powder." When I asked if they were serious, they confirmed yes, they make them exactly the same way. This was said with a patronising tone that I found quite off-putting. Second visit (this morning): I decided to give them another chance and ordered a small cappuccino and eggs on toast, confirming my order included "two eggs on toast." I received two separate servings of eggs on toast. When I explained the mistake, the staff member immediately insisted "You ordered two" and was unwilling to correct the error. I was charged for both orders on my credit card. When I asked for salt and pepper for the takeaway portion, I was ignored. Both experiences involved different staff members, but the dismissive attitude was consistent. The communication issues were made worse by staff using what seemed like unnatural accent that were difficult to understand. I really enjoy my morning coffee and breakfasts, and given the convenient location, I was hoping this could become my go-to place. The Shed Café in Stanhope Gardens is hands down one of my favorite spots in Sydney. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service is always fast with a smile. Their coffees are amazing—honestly some of the best I’ve had—and the food is just as delicious.

I recently moved to the Stanhope area and feel so lucky to have found this hidden gem. The location is perfect: a charming corner spot where you can sit inside or outside, people-watch, and enjoy the atmosphere. They have heat lamps in winter and a shady veranda in summer, making it comfortable year-round. It’s a great place to meet a friend or two over coffee, or even to host a small group or work meeting (I see them happening here often).

As a digital nomad, I actually look forward to starting my workday here. Sitting at this café has become the highlight of my mornings—so much so that I find myself looking forward to Mondays!

We took my husband for a father’s day celebration and were very disappointed. When the food came there was no food presentation at all not as imaged on the menu and was not seasoned. There was a hair on of the drinks but they have replaced it immediately. It’s not actually busy at that time, there were so many empty tables only around 6-7 tables. The food portion was so small considering the price. My son’s food was like a burger that came out from a schools lunch box, the fries was just few pieces. I thought it was the wrong order as it looks like a kids meal but turned out no, it was the Angus beef burger. The Salmon poke bowl was not exactly presented as per the image, its so off looking with over toasted salmon.
