Having my favourite Vietnamese dish in a picture on the menu outside was enough reason for me to enter this restaurant. Once seated, I wanted to find my dish (Chao Long) but was unsuccessful. After going to the counter, I realized there have a collection of 4 different menus and eventually found my dish. When the dishes arrived, we realized that they got our order wrong. The crab cake noodle soup became crab cake bun cha. But we accepted it anyway since we did not want them to chuck it out. We also noticed that they delivered a seafood dish to someone who ordered vegetarian in the next table. Here's my assessment of the food: - chao long served with a side of blood sausage was good, very happy with the flavour - spring rolls were under-cooked, still hard and a bit doughy - crab cakes were over-fried, so a bit tough on the outside and I could not really taste any crab Overall, food was sub-par. Service could do with some improvements with better discipline, like write down the customer's orders before taking a phone call. We also noticed that the waiting staff did not speak English well, because we asked this guy for a bowl twice and he looked clueless. One last thing, I also noticed a small creature making its way across the wall just after we were seated. I just shooed it away but I can see some people get really bothered by that.

This one is for the bánh mì lovers: head to Thuy Huong in Marrickville for a variant on this popular street food. They’re serving spicy bánh mì que ($5). The ‘que’ translates to stick, referring to the longer, thinner baguette-like shape of these offerings. They’re smeared in fatty pork pate, dusted in pork floss, and drizzled with chilli sauce after being crisped up. They eat much less messily than their salad-filled counterparts, so are ideal for a walking snack. With this in mind the shop has been set up with a street-side Bain-Marie for the grab’n’go crowd. However to do so would be to miss out on their excellent bánh xèo tôm thịt ($17) or crispy pancake. This turmeric-hued beauty arrives filled with prawns and slices of roast pork belly, with a selection of leaves and herbs, and a dressing that uses their home-made fish sauce. The other highlight here is the coconut iced coffee ($7) served in a takeaway container regardless of whether you opt to take away or dine in. It’s rich and satisfying with enough caffeine to power you through the weekly shopping trip.

Well, Bertie wanted to lash out and dare to be different. If anyone knows Bertie, you know where I am coming from. We ordered the stuffed escargot with pork, eggplant chips with caramelised soy, watercress greens with garlic and chilli and caramelised pork, again if you know Bertie pork it up! Eggplant chips were ok, just a little over fried The stuffed escargot, Bertie and I had different opinions, Bertie was enjoying them so much that a smile broke out the size of something massive, I on the other hand not so, but I am not a fan of escargot, so I put it down to personal preference more than anything. Watercress was ok and a little to much fish sauce for my likening but not inadequate, the right amount of fresh chilli and garlic with it, bonus. The caramelised pork was nice and tender and what you would expect but not blow you away good, still lovely and eatable. Living in Marrickville for many years, my opinion is you need to step up if you are opening a Vietnamese restaurant, so much competition, this place is good but not the best in the hood.

7pm arrived and seated 7.05pm a group of 6 arrived looked at the menu then left 7.07pm ordered crispy chicken noodle and tomato rice pork chops 7.10pm waitress took a tray of food out (likely to a nearby store) 7.15pm waitress took another tray of food out (likely to another nearby store) 7.20pm group of 6 returned and seated 7.30pm group of 6 ordered 7.35pm asked about the timing for our food. Told it is coming 7.45pm first dish arrived for group of 6. Waitress brough said dish to our table but it was bun xeo which we did not order and she took it back to the table of 6 people. 7.47pm asked about the timing for our food. Told it is coming 7.47-7.50pm 4 additional dishes arrived for group of 6.

We were less than thrilled that 43min in our 2 dishes still have not arrived and yet 5 dishes arrived for the group that came 20 minutes after us. After asking once again when our food will arrive and only to be met with it is coming, no going to the kitchen to check, and no apologies. We promptly left after feeling poorly serviced and hungry.

No stars on the food, probably good but never had a chance to try so...
