Really disappointed. Booked a table for eight people on a Saturday night. No menus, as we're all being forced to order via QR codes these days. It was too confusing to order for the whole table, so instead of sharing as we had intended, we all ended up doing our own thing.

We ordered bento boxes and a small plate of gyoza, which shouldn't have been too complicated, but we had to wait for an hour and a half. Two of our group almost had to leave before the food arrived, because they had to pick up their son (despite having allowed a few hours to eat). After more than an hour, one of us went up to the counter to ask if the food would be much longer - and was rudely told to go and sit back down because "we're doing our best, we're busy". They were clearly understaffed, but if they don't have enough people to take orders and serve food, why accept bookings for so many people? The restaurant was full.

When the food finally arrived, two of the dishes were wrong (although they did compensate us with some extra sashimi). The food was okay, but not amazing, and I'm fairly certain it was better last time I was here. The service was atrocious.

This used to be a really nice restaurant, and I am embarrassed that I brought my friends here this time. I won't make that...

i would not recommend especially when you booked and you probably will be forced to finished by a limited time. we went there last night, we ordered two sake $17 for a little bottle, one after another, when we almost finished the second bottle, but obviously still have less than half bottle of it and we asked for the waiter to reheat for us, after it came back and he gave us another full bottle!!!! what we want was asking for reheat but the waiter did not follow what we said and i think he was assuming that we just wanna have another bottle! at the end we paid another extra $17 for the unwanted sake which was the waiter assume that we wanna another bottle refill without confirm or asking us! not only that, but they charged us $52 for 3 x $17 each bottle of sake, which is $1 extra!! it should be $51(i think my math skill is still fresh) even we noticed that we didnt argue with them and just pay our bill straight, but i would not come back anymore! and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone i known! this is abousoulutely unsatisfactory service! never had such terrible experience with a japanese restaurant ! ! i can understand that sometime there are mistakes, but these are all small things can represent a team and restaurant. pricey is ok, but please be worth...

What a great little authentic restaurant! We had a large variety of sashimi and sushi as well as the prawn Gyoza and edamame! Food was all so fresh and delicious, really great quality and flavourful. The selection of Japanese specialty drinks was also great and the property is BYOB for a small charge. Overall very good value for money as well in comparison to the extortionate sushi places around.

If you are in a rush for dinner this is not the spot for you, we were happy to have our drinks and have various dishes arrive in big intervals but it was quite slow due to being a at capacity Saturday evening.

There was a mix up with a table near us as they had used our table number to order and we were getting their food, I believe this is who left a bad review a couple of days ago. The reality is they used the wrong table number and should have spoken up when no food arrived, the table had a very bad attitude when they left. Not very fair to leave a negative review they also didn’t pay for some of their food and added it to our bill... We did flag we hadn’t been ordering the things arriving so this is a learning for next time for the staff to not just assume we ordered by mistake and to check with other tables if they are...

My recent dining experience at a local Japanese restaurant, Tobikiri, was truly exceptional. The impeccable service and delicious food earned this establishment a perfect 5/5 rating in my book. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the cuisine, providing detailed explanations of the dishes and offering personalized recommendations. The menu featured a wide array of traditional Japanese dishes, each meticulously crafted and bursting with authentic flavours. The sashimi, in particular, was a standout, with high-quality ingredients and freshness. The presentation of the dishes was remarkable, and the restaurant also had an extensive selection of sake and Japanese beverages to complement the meal. Overall, Tobikiri is a hidden gem in the community, delivering an unforgettable dining experience for both seasoned enthusiasts of Japanese cuisine and newcomers alike. A definite 5/5 experience, will come again!

A severely disappointing visit at Tobikiri left a bad taste in my mouth. The biggest problem was that it took an hour for two bento boxes to come out. While I can sympathise that there was only one cook and one wait staff, it was still unacceptable, especially when it was after 8pm on a Tuesday night. The bento box lacked flavours and left me questioning my sense of taste. The food was lukewarm and not filling considering the long wait time. The sashimi wasn't fresh, which was a huge let down. The service was cold and despite a gentle query about the whereabouts of the food (after 30 minutes of waiting), the staff responded with "We aren't superman". Lastly, $28.50 for a Bento Box is very expensive and considering the small portion, it was not worth it. Don't be fooled by the glowing reviews. Not even the charming interiors can make me recommend this place to anyone.
